Repl.it saving data issue.

you should NEVER EVER do this: REPLITDATABASEURL=... you will permanently lose an actual working database url. anyways replit isn't meant for having 100% uptime, that's something you will have to pay for. Replit is just for hosting your projects so others can see it, you should never depend on it. However, for more reliability, just use something like firebase firestore https://firebase.google.com/docs/firestore/quickstart cool2 years ago

The value of REPLITDBURL changes from time to time, so we recommend that you not copy it elsewhere. Subsequent reads by the same process will see the same value. We will restart your repl if we need to change it after it has been read. ^ from https://docs.repl.it/misc/database I suggest you print out the database url, then put it in a .env file but rename it to something like REALDATABASEURL then os.getenv("REALDATABASEURL")2 years ago

Start with this in a Repl (replit): from os import getenv print(getenv("REPLITDBURL")) Now that we have your db url, use this in your computer's IDE: from os import environ environ["REPLITDBURL"] = "" from replit import db You can now use it on your local machine with that file.11 months ago

print(os.getenv("REPLITDATABASEURL")) use this and copy the url that is printed. Afterwards, u just need to add this to the database: from replit import db db.db_url = "" notes: Replit database was made specifically for replit, this is not an ideal solution, and there is no perfect solution. For security, the database url is reset every once in a while, so you will have to update the url each time the url doesn't work anymore.2 years ago

How do I stop Repl.it from stopping my repls just to update packages and restart? I kinda need to keep them running.

maybe try refreshing, or install them again. Or, maybe it could be a bug. Report it. https://repl.it/bugs2 years ago

Coder100
You can't. To save up space, (packages take up a lot of space), repl.it has to re-install packages. Also, did you know that repl.it uses multiple containers to save up costs as well? When you go to a different container, the packages don't carry through.2 years ago

You could still use nested dictionaries, just make it a json string you can then decode.2 years ago

I can't use the Repl.it DB because it won't work properly with nested dictionaries for some reason For example, DB"key1"["key3"], it just doesn't behave properly.2 years ago

@SUPERMECHM500 Hi, You are on a good path right now... UptimeRobot is going a little bit glitchy these days. If you want to use Pinger made by @mat1, then you can use but I am pretty sure that Discord bots with that would be a rough experience:- https://ping.matdoes.dev/ So, You better follow one of these tutorials on keeping your Discord Bot alive. Hi! If repl.it doesn't kill the repl, then there would be 2 instances and then it wouldn't work at all. Anyways, you can configure it to not install packages. Create a .replit file: run="python main.py" `3 years ago

Uptime Robot pings your repl every 5 minutes, and sometimes repl.it will crash between these 5 minutes. If you plan to bring your bot online only, try using a hosting provider instead. Please ask any questions.3 years ago

1) This happens because repl doesn't keep everything online all the time, after a while of no requests, it turns off your repl 2) You can use something like UpTimeRobot (here known as UTR) to keep your repl online by not letting there be any times where nobody is visiting 3) Even then, your repl will shut down whenever repl.it updates things, etc., but it will be better.3 years ago

Ok I got this from someone else much better at this than I, he says since turtle which isnt actually python, it uses skulpt, which is an implementation of python using javascript, u can’t use packages skulpt doesn’t support :/ sorry4 years ago
timmy_i_chen
timmy_i_chen
This is because our Python Turtle repls use Skulpt, which is python implemented in JavaScript. What this means is that you can't have multiple files (as it is pure JS), and you can't import packages unless it is directly supported by skulpt, hence the error message.4 years ago
