Happy February, fellow replers! It's been a long time since I was able to post since I've been extremely busy lately. A lot of cool stuff have been shipped in the last few weeks, and a lot of awesome things have been happening!

    Replit Updates

Here are some of the coolest launches in these past few weeks.

    Replit India

Users across the world often experience slower speeds when using Replit, since all machines are based in San Francisco. Luckiliy, the team shipped a Replit India, which enables everyone in the world to experience Replit running at its fastest.

    Replit india

All you have to do to start usign the India cluster is go to your account settings and switch your server location. Unsure which one works better for you? Try switching between them and comparing speeds.

    india server

    Git in the shell

Before this change was shipped, using git in the shell was a terrible experience on Replit. You had to paste your access token in almost every time you ran a git command. Luckily,

    Ryan
shipped a change which allows you to use git seamlessly in the shell. All you have to do is allow Replit to access your git credentials once, and you're all good to go!

    git in the shell

(if you can't see the image, try https://replit-docs-images.util.repl.co/updates/git.gif)

    Bounties Page Redesign

Take a look at how nice the Bounties page page looks now! Give a shout-out to @Bookie0 for helping to redesign it and make it look awesome!

    Replit Rep Cohort V2

The second handful of Replit Reps have been recruited, some of who are @RayhanADev, @Hugo, @Oli, and some others. Pay attention to the Replit Discord for updates on events they'll host!

    Personal Updates

First off, I've been trying to get in to DevRel a little more lately, so you'll see me a lot more active on Twitter. If you enjoy programming questions, short tutorials, and polls, consider following me and you'll get a ton of content on a daily basis.

Another thing I've taken up is writing the Replit Changelog and writing a lot of documentation. I essentially do the same thing in the changelog as in my blog, but I tend to post some other stuff and update my blog more often. I also started doing video recording and making animated GIF tutorials in the docs as well. See if you can find any!

If you're a fan of AI, try checking out Midjourney. I recently stumbled across it and figured out that it generates images better than Stable Diffusion and Dalle. I believe @TechLionDev used it to generate some prototype of his profile picture, which looks amazing.

    techlion's avatar

If you enjoy surprises, check out this repl I made by using a bit of graphql ;)

Finally, if you're a speed and performance enthusiast (as well as a javascript nerd), you'll definitely love using bun, which is a new javascript runtime that's over three times faster than Node.js. To try it out for yourself, check out @bddy's Replit template.

    Questions

And now to collect personal information from everyone!

    1. Describe Java in three words (rant all you want, it's nasty!)
    2. Have you made any friends on Replit directly? How has community activity benefitted you?
    3. What is your favorite Replit theme?
    4. What project do you want to build, but never had the time?

That being said, farewell everyone! Catch y'all next time!

As you all know, it has been a long time since I've posted. I'd been at my first businees trip with Replit, and it was amazing! Before we dive into today's post, be sure to join the Replit Townhall on youtube this afternoon from 2:00-3:00PM PST. Amjad will be speaking there, and so will Sergei, the main engineer who built themes! On top of that, you'll learn more about new AI tools, the change to replit's Hacker Plan, and upcoming features!

    Personal Updates

Hack Week is a yearly hackathon in which all full-time Replit employees pitch an idea, team up, and start building. In this years' hack week, I came up with [REDACTED] and built it with @Bookie0 and @Vandesm14. Look forward to it this year, we're not sure when it'll be launched, but it will make it soon.

Everyone went to the Nona Wave Hotel in Orlando, where all the coding took place. In other words, we basically took over the entire hotel for a week 😂.

It was amazing getting to meet everyone in person! Aside from hacking, we went to some cool places together, talked about cool stuff (mostly programming), and got to know each other a lot better.

    Funny Highlights

Although a large chunk of the Replit team act and think like computers in some ways, a lot of people are outrageously hilarious! Here are some funny highlights at Hack Week that kept me convulsing in laughter.

    1. Mic drop

Mentioned in another post, @SergeiChestakov is the guy who almost singlehandedly built themes. An interesting fact about him is that he loves to use microphones. Occasionally he'd pick up the microphone and say something funny, or just "hello".
When the team was outside eating dinner, there was a stereo set up with two microphones so that Amjad could make an announcement.

Sergei picked up the microphone and asked what everyone thought about airplane food. After a few silly remarks and a few fights for the microphone with @jesse, @Bardia, and a few others, @jesse sneaked over to the microphone receiver and turned it off.

A couple of hours later, I told Sergei what happened with the microphone. You can guess what happened to Jesse next 🤸‍♂️🥊 (just kidding).

    2. Google Sheet Vandalism

We originally had a google sheet that was our schedule for what everyone would be demoing. It was a classic sheet, black text and a white background. Nothing exactly interesting.

Two people started playing tic-tac-toe in the google sheet's rows and columns, two more people started playing chess with emojis, and small things here and there.

Everything was still relatively smooth until Sergei uploaded a picture of @AllAwesome497. After that, things went chaotic.

    AllAwesome497

Everyone was in the large conference room and some people were using a projector attached to their computers to show the projects they built. I was struggling to not burst out in laughter at the state of the google sheet, and this is why:

    crazy google sheet

    Remnants of the chess game

    chess game

And we got big buff bubbas in there too

    strongwade

I swear this was inspired by @d31337's "Hurts the eyes" theme.

    Launches

Here are some features that have been launched recently!

    PostgreSQL databases

In the Tools section on your repl, you should now see a cute elephant icon if you're an explorer. You can get a database capable of storing ten gigabytes of data for 100 cycles a day.

    Repricing Update

Replit's Hacker Plan will soon only support one always-on repl instead of five starting in April. Although this may sound devastating, there is a bright side to this.

    1. Editing Experience - Hacker plan users will now get 2GB of CPU and RAM on their repls when actively coding in the workspace so that there won't be as many resource overflows and slow LSP.
    2. Vertical Scalability - You can now hyperboost your repl to 32x its original speed and power, a maximum of 16vCPU and 16GB of RAM.

    Question time

    1. What are your opinions on AI? Do you think it'll take over humanity today?
    2. What is one feature you think will massively improve the Replit Community?
    3. How is the current bounty hunting experience for you? How do you think it can be improved?

Farewell everyone! I will see y'all at the townhall today! Catch y'all next time!

Happy 2023, everyone! It's been a long and productive year for Replit and for me as well. We are planning on shipping a ton more features this year and making replit reliable for hosting large applications.

    My yearly breakdown

It has been a huge year for me. Here are some of the things I've gone through and accomplished:

    Jan - March 2022

    • Learned Next.js + React
    • Started college at https://uopeople.edu
    • Started making a ton of cool content on replit & doing some "free freelance" work

    April - May 2022

    • Won the madewithreplit hackathon with @jdog787 and @spotandjake with Celestron
    • Released and shipped YouBarter and AllMetalWelding
    • Became a site mod and built the first versions of the moderation dashboard and auto-reporting tools

    June - July 2022

    • Was a mentor in replit's Kajam competition, developed Tarragon with @haroon, @bddy, and @lajbel
    • Tried to apply to work at replit a second time by sending an email to @amasad. The engineering team didn't have the capacity to mentor me since they were busy shipping and improving replit at a massive scale.
    • Trust and Safety was rising to a higher and more sophisticated level with new tools

    August - November 2022

    • Applied for the Support Engineer position and made it to work at replit!
    • Identified a massive spam attack in October, worked together with @akac and @qirtaiba and got them smashed down
    • Released an even more powerful moderation dashboard
    • Took off building on replit and added the comment jumping feature + some others
    • Got a grip of how Replit's code looked like and learned how to do some more complex stuff

    December 2022

    • Built some useful tools for the support team
    • Migrated some of the support load to the ask forum
    • Replit focuses on power and cycles, shipping faster than ever before
    • Replit hits its $100K yearly revenue goal on Dec 30th!

Taking a look back at January, I never would have guessed I'd be here now. This year, I want to accelerate in Engineering and learn more advanced coding so I can build more stuff and help ship new features!

    Replit updates

    Tipping Leaderboard

The tipping leaderboard has been released! You can now see the top 25 global tippers on replit!

    tipping leaderboard

    Bounty Editing

You can now edit your bounties if you've made a typo! The long-awaited feature has finally landed!

    Sidebar Theme-Switcher

Instead of toggling only between light and dark, you can now switch themes from the sidebar directly! theme switcher

    Superboosting

Instead of only a single boost, you will soon be able to boost your repl up to 32x faster! I've mentioned this before in another post, but the UI has drastically improved!

    New mods!

Welcome @bddy, @haroon, and @zplusfour to the moderation team! We got six extra eyes on the community to take care of content that is prohibited.

    Discord hit 20K members!

Not necessarily something on the replit site, but the replit discord server just hit 20,000 members and is still growing at a rapid rate!

    Personal Updates

    1. I am going to be in Orlando from the 8th to the 14th of January to join the Replit Team at my first business meetup. So excited to meet everyone in person!
    2. I've been redesigning my website. Take a sneak peek if you want!
    3. If you were wondering how I got the domain, I bought repl.page. (btw I won't be handing out any subdomains - replit might do something with cycles and domains in the future!)

    Question Time

    1. What are your new year resolutions? What is something you want to accomplish this year that falls under the category of programming?
    2. What is something cool you think replit will release this year?
    3. What social media platforms do you use most?
    4. What do you see as the greater? Improvements to Replit's Community or improvements to Power and Reliability?

And that is it for today! Catch y'all next time!

    Dec 22nd, 2022

This past week has been a huge shipping week for replit. Lots of cool stuff landed and lots of cool things have landed for beta/staff users.

    Replit Updates

The first and most obvious update that everyone has been waiting for is the Theme Explorer 🎨 page! After many years 🕰 of requests, replit's most requested feature finally broke through ☄ and made it to all users!
Give it away to @theflowingsky, @SergeiChestakov, and @eddieatreplit for grinding ⚙️🛠 on themes for months!
Check out the amazing launch video 📺 on twitter and share your favorites in the thread below 👇 ✨

SSH allows you to connect to your repl from your local machine 💻. This means you can code on your favorite editor 👨‍💻 on your device and watch as your code changes sync to replit almost instantly ⚡️!
This feature is still in super beta mode and is only out to replit staff and some beta testers. Keep a keen eye 👀 out for this feature!

Postgres Database Hosting 🐘 is in the works 👷‍♂️! Get 2GB of storage for an amount of cycles 🌀 (TBD) and you can store and manage data 📈 directly from your repl and make crazy cool stuff with it!

    postgres database

Deployments are also being actively developed! You will soon be able to separate the development 🛠 and production 🔥 environment in your repl and also provide your production app with tons of resources. Say goodbye 👋 to your repls going offline 😴 once this gets shipped 🚢!

    deployments eeee

Ghostwriter Chat is a ChatGPT-similar 💬 program that can be accessed from the workspace! The data/ai team is working hard on fine-tuning 💪 Ghostwriter 👻 chat so that it provides accurate code results and stops refusing to respond.
Keep your eyes open 👁👁, you're not going to want to miss this!

    gw chat

The New Support Flow is something I've been working on for the past few months. To report a bug 🪲, get help using replit 🙋‍♂️, or make a feature request, we're now using the Ask Forum.

If you're an explorer 🧭 on replit, you will now see a new Get Help button that replaces the old "Contact Support", "Report a Bug", and "Request a Feature" buttons.

    new support flow

Clicking the Get Help option will open an interactive guide that will address and help users to work around issues they are having trouble with.

    interactive flow

After more than 1000 Lines of CSS 👨‍🎨🎨, I finally was able to restyle the ask forum to look more like replit 🪦. There is a replit dark mode 🌜 theme, a replit light mode ☀️💀 theme (not recommended), and the default one everyone's been using.

    Personal Updates

The first thing I'd like to mention is that I will not be working next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednsday 🛌. I'll be focusing on moderation tools 🛠 and redesigning my website 🖌. I've decided to keep my original logo and just make my website look better and keep its information up-to-date.

Another thing I'd like to mention is that I'll try to spread 🧈 my blog across twitter 🦃, dev.to, and discord 💬 rather than just centralizing ⭕️ around replit. DevRel is really awesome and I would definitely like to bite 🦷 into it a bit more.

Finally, I'll be quite inactive in the community from Jan 8th-14th. I'll be going to Orlando 🐭 to meet up with the entire replit team for the first time in real life ✨! Hack Week 👩‍💻👨‍💻 (team meetup) occurs twice a year in replit and is basically an in-company hackathon where certain teams compete to make cool ideas of theirs. Many ideas such as Extensions, Themes, and Site-Wide Search 🔍 originated from hack week ideas.
I will definitely update y'all about how it was there. Stay tuned 🎵!

    Questions

    1. What is your favorite theme on the marketplace?
    2. What is your favorite project trending on community right now and why?
    3. How many hours do you code a week? If you had as much time as you wanted, how many hours would you code each week?

And with that, today's blog post is complete. Farewell everyone, and have a Merry Christmas 🎄🎅 🎁!

PS: Thanks, @Icemastereric for the 200 cycle tip on my blog! ^_^

It is halfway through December! Two more weeks and this year's gonna end! Within this past week there've been some really cool stuff in replit.

Last week, one person participated in my AMA, and that person is @d31337 who just got tipped 500 cycles.

    <◇◇==AMA answers==◇◇>

Me: Why do you use replit? Are you active on any other platforms?

d31337: Because it's a great platform to host code on. Not really.

Me: What is your preferred programming stack and why?

d31337: MERN ig. React is cool.

Me: What level of programming do you see yourself at in three years?

d31337: OMEGA Legend diamond class. Jk, by then all the code will probably be written by an app on people's phones.

Me: How do you explain the concept of programming to people who have no experience in it?

d31337: It's a way to describe to computers what specifically you want them to do.

Me: What feature were you most happy about that has been released this year? Why were you looking forward to it?

d31337: Bounties. They are one of Replit's best features. Yeah, I was sort of looking forward to it, but tbh I didn't expect it to be so big. I thought it would just kinda fade away, with the occasional $10 bounty being posted. But no, there is tons of good stuff in there.

    <◇◇==Replit News & Updates==◇◇>

    1. @haroon and @bddy just became site moderators on Replit today! They have been very valuable members to the replit community and now have been given the opportunity to shine some more! Keep an eye out for some cool projects from them!

    2. The ask forum is the new place to report bugs, request features, and get help with replit. The support team is migrating away from direct contact to letting the community help out as well. Give a shoutout to @Vandesm14 who is working hard on authentication and linking accounts to the ask forum.

    3. The replit mobile app is now supported for tablets/ipads and also support landscape mode. This was one of the most requested features when the mobile app came out with hundreds of requests flooding into the support inbox every few days. Huge shoutout to @replitlaima, @MCChen, and @inkRepl for their dedicated work on the mobile app!

    4. The infinity drive for repls is very close to hitting the surface and is looking crazy cool! Not only will repls be able to store exabytes of data, but repls will load dozens of times faster as well. Of course this massive amount of storage for repls will be a paid product, but it will definitely improve the abilities of creators across the platform. Thanks to @ZachAtReplit for being the main engineer to work on this!

    5. SSH for repls are in super beta mode but are in the works! @amasad recently announced in his tweet that some users could be able to beta test it! Drop your username in the tweet if you want to try it out!

    6. Discord Bots will soon be able to be hosted reliably on replit. We are currently working on fixing these heavy ratelimits so that creators can have more power and abilities! @lhchavez has been working tirelessly on this. Be sure to give him your gratitude when it gets released! The release date is unknown, but it's coming soon.

    7. Theme discovery and browsing is in the works! You will soon be able to browse new themes created by people and install them! Here's a small gif I got of what's been built so far. Give a huge thanks to @SergeiChestakov and @theflowingsky for building, designing, and working on replit's most-requested feature! theme browsing

<◇◇==Personal Updates==◇◇> Mostly what I've been working on this week has been the docs. Have you noticed anything different with the replit docs? If so, comment the differences below!

Another thing I've built and implemented is the status integration with status.replit.com. If you open the help button from the sidebar or workspace, you will see an indicator that says whether replit is all good to go or if there is a current incident.

Finally, I have redesigned the flow for getting help/contacting support on replit. You can see this at https://replit.com/support, and pretty soon, you will see it in the in-app form.

    <◇◇==Questions==◇◇>

    1. How would you describe replit in only three words?
    2. Have you used ChatGPT before? How does it impact you and others as a programmer?
    3. Do you really think AI will take over the jobs of programmers? Explain why/why not.
    4. Not really a question, but if you want, post some funny poems about ChatGPT in the thread below along with your questions.

    gpt oof

That being said, I will see you all next time in my next post. Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy your week.

Oh and btw here's a noice christmas song: https://open.spotify.com/track/3YEWbvt2IfS2yPdjkJM1hR?si=d0a6c4a69f924008

    Farewell everyone!

Happy February, fellow replers! It's been a long time since I was able to post since I've been extremely busy lately. A lot of cool stuff have been shipped in the last few weeks, and a lot of awesome things have been happening! Replit Updates Here are some of the coolest launches in these past few weeks. Replit India Users across the world often experience slower speeds when using Replit, since all machines are based in San Francisco. Luckiliy, the team shipped a Replit India, which enables everyone in the world to experience Replit running at its fastest. Replit india All you have to do to start usign the India cluster is go to your account settings and switch your server location. Unsure which one works better for you? Try switching between them and comparing speeds. india server Git in the shell Before this change was shipped, using git in the shell was a terrible experience on Replit. You had to paste your access token in almost every time you ran a git command. Luckily, Ryan shipped a change which allows you to use git seamlessly in the shell. All you have to do is allow Replit to access your git credentials once, and you're all good to go! git in the shell (if you can't see the image, try https://replit-docs-images.util.repl.co/updates/git.gif) Bounties Page Redesign Take a look at how nice the Bounties page page looks now! Give a shout-out to @Bookie0 for helping to redesign it and make it look awesome! Replit Rep Cohort V2 The second handful of Replit Reps have been recruited, some of who are @RayhanADev, @Hugo, @Oli, and some others. Pay attention to the Replit Discord for updates on events they'll host! Personal Updates First off, I've been trying to get in to DevRel a little more lately, so you'll see me a lot more active on Twitter. I believe @TechLionDev used it to generate some prototype of his profile picture, which looks amazing. techlion's avatar If you enjoy surprises, check out this repl I made by using a bit of graphql ;) Finally, if you're a speed and performance enthusiast (as well as a javascript nerd), you'll definitely love using bun, which is a new javascript runtime that's over three times faster than Node.js. To try it out for yourself, check out @bddy's Replit template. Questions And now to collect personal information from everyone! Describe Java in three words (rant all you want, it's nasty!) Have you made any friends on Replit directly? How has community activity benefitted you? What is your favorite Replit theme? What project do you want to build, but never had the time? That being said, farewell everyone! Catch y'all next time!

As you all know, it has been a long time since I've posted. I'd been at my first businees trip with Replit, and it was amazing! Before we dive into today's post, be sure to join the Replit Townhall on youtube this afternoon from 2:00-3:00PM PST. Amjad will be speaking there, and so will Sergei, the main engineer who built themes! On top of that, you'll learn more about new AI tools, the change to replit's Hacker Plan, and upcoming features! Personal Updates Hack Week is a yearly hackathon in which all full-time Replit employees pitch an idea, team up, and start building. Funny Highlights Although a large chunk of the Replit team act and think like computers in some ways, a lot of people are outrageously hilarious! Here are some funny highlights at Hack Week that kept me convulsing in laughter. 1. Mic drop Mentioned in another post, @SergeiChestakov is the guy who almost singlehandedly built themes. 2. Google Sheet Vandalism We originally had a google sheet that was our schedule for what everyone would be demoing. AllAwesome497 Everyone was in the large conference room and some people were using a projector attached to their computers to show the projects they built. I was struggling to not burst out in laughter at the state of the google sheet, and this is why: crazy google sheet Remnants of the chess game chess game And we got big buff bubbas in there too strongwade I swear this was inspired by @d31337's "Hurts the eyes" theme. Launches Here are some features that have been launched recently! PostgreSQL databases In the Tools section on your repl, you should now see a cute elephant icon if you're an explorer. You can get a database capable of storing ten gigabytes of data for 100 cycles a day. Repricing Update Replit's Hacker Plan will soon only support one always-on repl instead of five starting in April. Although this may sound devastating, there is a bright side to this. Editing Experience - Hacker plan users will now get 2GB of CPU and RAM on their repls when actively coding in the workspace so that there won't be as many resource overflows and slow LSP. Vertical Scalability - You can now hyperboost your repl to 32x its original speed and power, a maximum of 16vCPU and 16GB of RAM. Question time What are your opinions on AI? Do you think it'll take over humanity today? What is one feature you think will massively improve the Replit Community? How is the current bounty hunting experience for you? How do you think it can be improved? Farewell everyone! I will see y'all at the townhall today! Catch y'all next time!

@IroncladDev 1. AI is very useful and helpful for people. Constant developments in AI can revolutionize the world. No, I do not think that AI will take over humanity today or in the next century or two / forever 2. Hmm I think improving the formula for community in general to have more new posts and less old posts with a ton of likes showing up 3. Bounty hunting is fun. I personally have not done a bounty yet cause i haven't found the time / haven't been interested in any of them, but I think there are a ton of people who are very impressed with replit due to this feature. There are several ways it could be improved but I don't think I should be the one answering that Also for 4X everything in editor it used to cost 2 cycles a day and from now onwards it costs 20 for 2X...I know Replit needed this change but you know it really is annoying for a lot of people as you increased the cost 10 times and halved the value (if you check the price for 4x now it is 35 times 2 which is 70 cycles per day...). Try improving the prices I guess?15 days ago

@IroncladDev 1. I think it's a powerful tool but I don't think it will take over humanity *today* 2. Maybe once updates are better, the current updates system isnt very good 3. @IroncladDev 1. No probably not 2. I think it would be nice if you could add "friends" which can access your repls if you want them to. It would also be nice if you could limit each user in your multiplayer repl to only edit specific files or so certain things. 3. IDK12 days ago

Jan 3rd, 2023
Happy 2023, everyone! It's been a long and productive year for Replit and for me as well. We are planning on shipping a ton more features this year and making replit reliable for hosting large applications. My yearly breakdown It has been a huge year for me. Here are some of the things I've gone through and accomplished: Jan - March 2022 > - Learned Next.js + React > - Started college at https://uopeople.edu > - Started making a ton of cool content on replit & doing some "free freelance" work April - May 2022 > - Won the madewithreplit hackathon with @jdog787 and @spotandjake with Celestron > - Released and shipped YouBarter and AllMetalWelding > - Became a site mod and built the first versions of the moderation dashboard and auto-reporting tools June - July 2022 > - Was a mentor in replit's Kajam competition, developed Tarragon with @haroon, @bddy, and @lajbel > - Tried to apply to work at replit a second time by sending an email to @amasad. The engineering team didn't have the capacity to mentor me since they were busy shipping and improving replit at a massive scale. > - Trust and Safety was rising to a higher and more sophisticated level with new tools August - November 2022 > - Applied for the Support Engineer position and made it to work at replit! > - Identified a massive spam attack in October, worked together with @akac and @qirtaiba and got them smashed down > - Released an even more powerful moderation dashboard > - Took off building on replit and added the comment jumping feature + some others > - Got a grip of how Replit's code looked like and learned how to do some more complex stuff December 2022 > - Built some useful tools for the support team > - Migrated some of the support load to the ask forum > - Replit focuses on power and cycles, shipping faster than ever before > - Replit hits its $100K yearly revenue goal on Dec 30th! Taking a look back at January, I never would have guessed I'd be here now. This year, I want to accelerate in Engineering and learn more advanced coding so I can build more stuff and help ship new features! Replit updates Tipping Leaderboard The tipping leaderboard has been released! You can now see the top 25 global tippers on replit! tipping leaderboard Bounty Editing You can now edit your bounties if you've made a typo! The long-awaited feature has finally landed! Sidebar Theme-Switcher Instead of toggling only between light and dark, you can now switch themes from the sidebar directly! theme switcher Superboosting Instead of only a single boost, you will soon be able to boost your repl up to 32x faster! Personal Updates I am going to be in Orlando from the 8th to the 14th of January to join the Replit Team at my first business meetup. So excited to meet everyone in person! I've been redesigning my website. Take a sneak peek if you want! If you were wondering how I got the domain, I bought repl.page. (btw I won't be handing out any subdomains - replit might do something with cycles and domains in the future!) Question Time What are your new year resolutions? What is something you want to accomplish this year that falls under the category of programming? What is something cool you think replit will release this year? What social media platforms do you use most? What do you see as the greater? Improvements to Replit's Community or improvements to Power and Reliability? And that is it for today! Catch y'all next time!

Dec 22nd, 2022
Dec 22nd, 2022 This past week has been a huge shipping week for replit. Lots of cool stuff landed and lots of cool things have landed for beta/staff users. Replit Updates The first and most obvious update that everyone has been waiting for is the Theme Explorer 🎨 page! After many years 🕰 of requests, replit's most requested feature finally broke through ☄ and made it to all users!\ Give it away to @theflowingsky, @SergeiChestakov, and @eddieatreplit for grinding ⚙️🛠 on themes for months!\ Check out the amazing launch video 📺 on twitter and share your favorites in the thread below 👇 ✨ SSH allows you to connect to your repl from your local machine 💻. This means you can code on your favorite editor 👨‍💻 on your device and watch as your code changes sync to replit almost instantly ⚡️!\ This feature is still in super beta mode and is only out to replit staff and some beta testers. Keep a keen eye 👀 out for this feature! Postgres Database Hosting 🐘 is in the works 👷‍♂️! Get 2GB of storage for an amount of cycles 🌀 (TBD) and you can store and manage data 📈 directly from your repl and make crazy cool stuff with it! postgres database Deployments are also being actively developed! You will soon be able to separate the development 🛠 and production 🔥 environment in your repl and also provide your production app with tons of resources. Say goodbye 👋 to your repls going offline 😴 once this gets shipped 🚢! deployments eeee Ghostwriter Chat is a ChatGPT-similar 💬 program that can be accessed from the workspace! The data/ai team is working hard on fine-tuning 💪 Ghostwriter 👻 chat so that it provides accurate code results and stops refusing to respond.\ Keep your eyes open 👁👁, you're not going to want to miss this! gw chat The New Support Flow is something I've been working on for the past few months. To report a bug 🪲, get help using replit 🙋‍♂️, or make a feature request, we're now using the Ask Forum. If you're an explorer 🧭 on replit, you will now see a new Get Help button that replaces the old "Contact Support", "Report a Bug", and "Request a Feature" buttons. new support flow Clicking the Get Help option will open an interactive guide that will address and help users to work around issues they are having trouble with. interactive flow After more than 1000 Lines of CSS 👨‍🎨🎨, I finally was able to restyle the ask forum to look more like replit 🪦. There is a replit dark mode 🌜 theme, a replit light mode ☀️💀 theme (not recommended), and the default one everyone's been using. Personal Updates The first thing I'd like to mention is that I will not be working next Monday, Tuesday, and Wednsday 🛌. Many ideas such as Extensions, Themes, and Site-Wide Search 🔍 originated from hack week ideas.\ I will definitely update y'all about how it was there. Stay tuned 🎵! Questions What is your favorite theme on the marketplace? What is your favorite project trending on community right now and why? How many hours do you code a week? If you had as much time as you wanted, how many hours would you code each week? And with that, today's blog post is complete. Farewell everyone, and have a Merry Christmas 🎄🎅 🎁! PS: Thanks, @Icemastereric for the 200 cycle tip on my blog! ^_^

Dec 16th, 2022
It is halfway through December! Two more weeks and this year's gonna end! Within this past week there've been some really cool stuff in replit. Last week, one person participated in my AMA, and that person is @d31337 who just got tipped 500 cycles. @haroon and @bddy just became site moderators on Replit today! They have been very valuable members to the replit community and now have been given the opportunity to shine some more! Keep an eye out for some cool projects from them! The ask forum is the new place to report bugs, request features, and get help with replit. The support team is migrating away from direct contact to letting the community help out as well. Give a shoutout to @Vandesm14 who is working hard on authentication and linking accounts to the ask forum. SSH for repls are in super beta mode but are in the works! @amasad recently announced in his tweet that some users could be able to beta test it! Drop your username in the tweet if you want to try it out! Theme discovery and browsing is in the works! You will soon be able to browse new themes created by people and install them! Here's a small gif I got of what's been built so far. Give a huge thanks to @SergeiChestakov and @theflowingsky for building, designing, and working on replit's most-requested feature! theme browsing Mostly what I've been working on this week has been the docs. How would you describe replit in only three words? Have you used ChatGPT before? How does it impact you and others as a programmer? Do you really think AI will take over the jobs of programmers? Explain why/why not. Not really a question, but if you want, post some funny poems about ChatGPT in the thread below along with your questions. gpt oof That being said, I will see you all next time in my next post. Have a Merry Christmas and enjoy your week. Oh and btw here's a noice christmas song: https://open.spotify.com/track/3YEWbvt2IfS2yPdjkJM1hR?si=d0a6c4a69f924008 Farewell everyone!

@IroncladDev Nice post! YAY FOR HAROON AND BDDY LES GO Do the themes work with the replit app? Why does the replit app seem so different from the website? I think it needs heavy improvements though I will give it that it was released two months ago. It needs better support for a bunch of things that have been implemented well on the website. It feels so basic that I still use the website on mobile. 1. CSS, communityfriendly, useful 2. no, It does impact me and others as programmers as it shows how a good but not the best AI can still solve simple code problems pretty effectively in almost any language. They could replace us and now is the time we start becoming AI developers rather than 'developers' 3. I think basic 'programming' will not be taken by AI as we still have to program an AI to program other AIs, resulting in us being at the top of the hierarchy. Humans are still needed and AI engineers are probably going to be the most wanted job of the future. I am still going to strive towards game development even though it seems to be getting less relevant as time goes on due to me loving the process of creating games and just that I am extremely young and I can change my complete path any time in like the next six years and it won't have an effect on me. I have that advantage. 4. too lazy but nice initiative?2 months ago

The most exciting news I have for y'all today is that Tipping is out to all explorers on replit! You can now tip cycles to your favorite creators and transfer cycles to each other! Other than that, we have ChatGPT going viral on twitter, updates on what I've been doing, events, and more. This feature alone needs to have a section of its own today! Here's how tipping works, how to get access to it, limitations, and what you can do with it. To get access to tipping, you need to have Explorer Mode on and the person you want to tip also needs to have explorer mode activated. To turn it on if you haven't already, navigate to your replit account, scroll down to Roles, and smack that switch on! To tip someone some cycles, go to one of their repls (here's one of my personal favorites, scroll down to around the Comments section, and you will see three buttons, total tips, and the top supporter. @CoderGautamYT was being very generous here with 1K cycles given! tipping section One of the limitations in tipping is that replit takes 10% of the cycles you send. This means if you tip 100 cycles, the person you tip gets a total of 90, and 10 goes back to replit. The reason why this happens is to 1. keep the interest for bounties and 2. to ensure that replit has a high-enough revenue to survive. No, you cannot tip yourself cycles. Huge thanks to the following repliteers for giving me some tips. I got a total of almost 1400 cycles today! @RayhanADev @VulcanWM @JDOG787 @GoodVessel92551 @jesse Next time, save y'all's tips for someone else. I work at replit and can basically generate any amount of cycles I want to. I really appreciate the kindness of you who have sent me the tips ❤️! I would like to have an async AMA session with y'all through email! If you'd like to participate, pop me an email at [email protected] and I will ask you some questions about replit and your daily coding life. I will start asking y'all the questions next Monday and end the AMA on Friday. Also, I will tip three participants 500 cycles depending on writing style and passion, so don't miss out on this one! Aside from the exciting tipping feature, here are some more interesting stuff that are planned to be launched early next year or by the end of this year. The Theme marketplace is planned to be launched close to the end of the year to all users. You'll be able to browse themes, install themes created by others, and even tip people for cool themes they make! The platform team is working on a new way to host your repl with manageable deployments, version control, and more! If you've used Vercel before, the experience will look very similar. Some of our engineers are working on a Git GUI revamp meaning that the experience for git and version control will be so much more seamless, fast, and powerful. The planned launch for this is unknown and many stuff are still in the air. The Hacker Plan Reprice will take place soon this year. We will soon provide only one always-on repl and one boosted repl but allow infinite private repls. To balance out the value of the hacker plan with everything else, the price of always-on and boosted repls will increase to a larger amount of cycles per day. Aside from doing my normal duties, here are some stuff I'd like to highlight: I'll be soon shipping a feature where you can view the status of replit through the site, without having to check https://status.replit.com. On twitter, we did a tweet on my ChatGPT showcase: https://twitter.com/Replit/status/1600914241359224833 With the trending new AI chat app, coding is now made so much easier! Try it out at https://chat.openai.com I've been grinding the replit docs really hard and shipped a ton of stuff today on how to use git and ghostwriter prompts. Check some of the new content out at https://docs.replit.com/category/using-git-on-replit and https://docs.replit.com/ghostwriter/explain-code In your opinion, which plays a greater role in cycles? Bounties or Tipping? Are you satisfied with the current state of themes? What is something you struggle with in coding the most? With all that being said, we come to the conclusion of the post today. See y'all around and Happy Coding!

It seems to be the 7th of December. Since last I wrote, there have been some cool stuff going on at work and some new cool-looking things back here at replit! Give a warm welcome to @DianaAtReplit! She joined the support team this past Monday as a Support Specialist. She does the same thing as @jesse which is handling user feedback, account/billing issues, and all other types of support tickets. Next up is an update on the ask forum. We are going to start using that to collect user feedback and bug reports instead of the support form. If you want to let the Replit team know about a feature you want or a bug you want to report, post it on the ask forum so others can share their thoughts and opinions on it! As the third thing on the list, me and the theming team have been looking high and low for bugs so that it can be fixed up before we launch to non-explorers. If you have found any wierd bugs with themes, let us know on the ask forum! My personal happiest moment at work this week was when @Bookie0 (or @ClementAtReplit returned to work at replit! He improved the design of replit like crazy when he was doing an internship this past summer and is back to make replit look so much more awesome! Breaking News, two replit employees have been competing who could use Comic Sans MS as their VSCode theme the longest. The competition has been going on for over two months between @taloranderson and @jnnnthnn. If you'd like to see their progress, check it out at https://comic-sans.taloranderson.repl.co/. By the way, the loser owes the winner 2,000 cycles. Who are you rooting for? Finally, I've been writing a lot of stuff on the replit docs as well as polishing it and improving its design. Some content from me on Ghostwriter, Git, and Themes is going to hit the surface soon! Stay tuned! We're having an AMA session with replit's Product Engineering Manager, Jeremy Press (@replitjeremy). To ask him a question, navigate over to https://ask.replit.com/t/dec-9-22-2-15pm-pst-jeremy-press-product-engineering-manager-ama/3451/4 and ask away! Jeremy is one of the reasons why replit ships so fast. Be sure to pass along any expressions of gratitude to him if you participate in the AMA. The Battle of the Ghost Jockeys is a contest in which @TechPandaPro and @cool-sidd will only use ghostwriter to code something which @DillonB07 will announce. This is not something you'll want to miss! Join them this Sunday at 8:00AM-9:30AM PST on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-RAHLKK6lc The fourth Replit Showcase is a great opportunity for your awesome repls to get some attention! In this event hosted by @DillonB07 and @TechPandaPro, we have a livestream of them trying out some cool repls. If you want to submit your repl for review, post it at https://replit-showcase.dillonb07.repl.co/ and join them this Saturday from 10:00AM - 11:00AM PST at https://youtu.be/FgAV4LO593o One of the best ways to view new updates on replit is to pay attention to our official changelog, which is managed by @bardia. TL;DR, in the past two weeks, we have gotten: 579 Pull Requests merged Workspace Sidebar + Header Redesign (all users) A Java course with bloomtech Some mobile app updates Some polish in the workspace Some fixes on Teams for Edu Aside from those, we have the replit Infinity Drive slowly rising to the surface. At the moment it's an admin-only feature, but it sure is awesome! With the infinity drive, some benefits will include: Repls booting in a few seconds instead of a few minutes Up to 17 Petabytes of storage Super powerful repl performance We aren't sure when this will land due to the current load of projects, but be sure to keep an eye out for it! Superboosting repls is also out for admins only. Pretty soon, you'll be able to nose the throttle on your repl to run 32 times faster than a standard repl. superboost What is one thing you've always wanted on replit but have never achieved or done? Would you prefer to know a little bit of ten languages or be profficient in only two? How do you think the replit documentation can be improved? And that having been said, I'll be ending this post for today. Catch y'all next time!

@IroncladDev 1. I'd love to make a beneficial program that's also trending 2. I'd prefer to be proficient in two 3. I would prefer some more deeper tutorials, like client-side frameworks or something2 months ago

@IroncladDev Just saying, if I somehow was able to have the infinity drive thing, always on, and superboost on the same repl (and give me private repls), I'd probably start using Replit for day-to-day things instead of an actual computer!!!2 months ago

Today is officially the last month of the year! I have plenty of cool updates on replit, some cool events, and more! Advent of Code is a yearly 25-day challenge in which two problems are introduced each day. You must complete different quests and compete to get higher on the leaderboard by earning the most stars! If you've never attended before, be sure to jump in at https://adventofcode.com. If you'd like to join the replit leaderboard, the code to join is 970245-6da4493f We also have some templates dedicated to Advent of Code from last year which you can use: https://replit.com/@util/aoc-csharp https://replit.com/@util/aoc-clojure https://replit.com/@util/aoc-swift https://replit.com/@util/aoc-cpp https://replit.com/@util/aoc-R https://replit.com/@util/aoc-python https://replit.com/@util/aoc-php https://replit.com/@util/aoc-nodejs https://replit.com/@util/aoc-java @lajbel is one of kaboom.js's biggest contributors and developers. They are currently hosting an event focused around code bugs! Code bugs aren't always fun but in this jam your goal is to make the most interesting one! Compete against others for three months of replit's Hacker Plan at https://replit.com/@lajbel/Bug-Jam?v=1. Details and submission form are in the link. The long-awaited feature is still in the sky and its planned launch date to Explorers is some time around next week! Currently it's out to all replit staff and is usable. There is also a top contributor position for tipping cycles on a repl. Competing to be the most generous is a very nice way to encourage the gifting of cycles. Here is a demo video of tipping cycles to @21natzil (aka Zwack/Nathan): https://www.loom.com/share/77a96d64a90d4b9cac6b9f7eb6d597e3 At work I've been writing a lot of documentation, working on support tools, and managing customer support as well as Trust and Safety. That's about all that's been going on lately. Have you tried creating or doing a bounty yet? How many personal themes have you created? If you've made any, send the screenshots in this thread below 👇 How many cycles do you have at this current moment? That is all I got for today's post. Catch y'all around next time!

1. Yes! I updated some of the Replit docs and I've created a [big API bounty](https://replit.com/bounties/@DillonB07/create-an-easily-ext) as well as a bounty for an aesthetically pleasing dark theme for google apps chromium extension. 2. Just 1. No screenshot, it's ugly. 3. 3679 - I spent over 7k on creating bounties and spent over 3k in livestreams :D2 months ago

It has been a while! I've just come back from Miami and am back to work on replit! Recently I've been working on catching back up on work and doing some support stuff. That being said, let's get into what's been going on recently on replit! ◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆ Rep applications have opened again! If you want to be a replit event organizer, be sure to apply swiftly! For more information, check out https://replit-reps.replit-community.repl.co/ Breaking News - In the replit discord, the beloved channel #oof-topic has been renamed to #off-topic 😭. It was a very sad migration as so many of us have known that channel's name for so long. One of our community members @stcollier made a repl to say goodbye to the channel 🤣 https://replit.com/@STCollier/In-memory-of-oof-topic?v=1 Bounties have been booming lately! There are tons of open bounties for everyone to apply for and create. If you are in need of some cycles, be sure to apply for some and start building! For those of you who have already started on bounties, try using @RayhanADev's bounty score repl to see how high your reliability is! https://replit.com/@RayhanADev/Bounty-Score Kind of a smaller update, I just passed the 1400-follower mark. @TheRealSnowSJ created an advanced replit theme editor which should be released to the public soon! In this editor, you can change each individual color, which means much better customization! Stay tuned and start stalking his profile, you won't want to miss this! @codingmaster398 made a chrome extension that adds sound effects to replit! Keep a watch out on the Chrome Web Store and his profile! ◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆ And now for y'all's favorite part, we have Replit Updates! The first thing that is new is the Status Manager. You can find this by your profile under the Status tab if you are an explorer. This enables you to see which repls are running, when your repls have last stopped/started, and on top of that, you can stop and start repls right from there! The next thing is that you can now customize the syntax highlighting for attribute names in html and jsx files via themes. The theming team is doing some more fine-tuning to get themes to be perfect! Another thing you might not have noticed is that LSP (aka autocomplete / code intelligence) has gotten much faster in a lot of repls. There is barely a delay for code intelligence while coding + it's gotten smarter with path intelligence. Try coding a bit and using a bunch of autocomplete suggestions. Finally, we are working on fine-tuning Ghostwriter to have way more accurate results. I'm not sure if you've noticed, but ghostwriter doesn't seem to want to repeat items in arrays or strings like fifty times anymore. Huge shout-out to @RezaAtReplit who leads the Data team for replit. ◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆ Now we have questions! What is more valuable to you? 100 cycles or 25 followers? Would you be interested in an integration where you can attach a chat system to your repl in a few lines of code? What problems do you think replit extensions will solve? I'm thinking about rebranding (changing my logo). Any guesses on what it'll look like? ◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆ And that is it for today! See y'all next time!

@IroncladDev I remember when I first got discord when I used to make slowdowns all by myself in oof topic...ah the memories Man I might try bounties soon but I feel like I am too dumb to solve any of the problems Imagine not being followed back by snow or codingm 😎 Ooh status is cool. Also I found the website in memory of Replit made two months after I joined replit with the org I created: https://replit-2020.whippingdot.repl.co/ This blew up at the time. If I made another one (which would be worse as the org died and my CSS probably is worse cause I haven't done web dev in like a full year) it probably would be more popular now...hmm iron want to work on something- (let us revive the org for this one project every year. That would be cool! WAIT I HAVE A CLUB IDEA-) Yup I noticed code intelligence is on steroids Oh wait my ghostwriter trial ended so I didn't know it got better...nice! 1. I don't use cycles ever but I do post (rarely) and so i think the followers (having a bunch of followers on a website online would be good for a resume and a good reason for replit to hire me) 2. Could you please elaborate? 3. Prettier on replit, gitlens on replit (cause current git integration is horrible), etc. 4. I mean why not. If you are at it could you try to rebrand mine too? I had mine made by Codemonkey51 back in 2020 but now he has seemed to have died (I tried contacting him many times) so I need someone else to help me remake mine lol. I could create a bounty for it... 810 cycles are valuable (8 bucks just for a profile icon...or wait for Christmas I could ask for more cycles so i could continuously make bounty requests-). No idea what your current logo is and so I have no idea what you would rebrand it to too2 months ago

Today is my birthday and I am now 17! There's gonna be a lot of social media bios to update as well as my website. It's kind of crazy how fast the days are going by lately. That being said, we'll first dive into what's been going on at replit. ◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇ Bounties have been officially launched to all users on replit! This means that there will soon be a tone more bounties for y'all to work on and possibly even create. Extensions are in the works! Some of our engineers are currently working on an api driver and writing the documentation for them. I personally have a very vague understanding of this, but I am definitely seeing progress! ReplDB is going to get an upgrade real soon! Repls will soon be able to use a faster, more powerful database with a ton more storage! Also on this feature I don't know much but it's looking good! Hacker plan is moving towards migrating to cycles. We're still not completely sure about everything, but the price of Always-On and Boosted repls are going to go up soon. Cycles are the cheaper option at the moment and I'd recommend using them instead of the hacker plan. Replit is leaning towards empowering developers over teachers/students more and more. This means that hosting, more power, and better reliability are being worked on while education projects are going to be pushed to the side a bit. ◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇ I will be away visiting family in Florida from the 17th to the 28th, so I most likely won't be making any new posts in that time range. I will poke around in the discord a bit. A quick update as well, I've been getting a lot more activity on replyte and I need some more mods. To be eligible, you will need to: Be at least 13 years of age Be in the replit discord Follow replit's terms of service as well as any and all third-parties on your replit account Check replyte preferably at least four times a week in intervals of at least 15 minutes Send me a dm request in discord (friend requests are closed) if you want to apply and if you are a good match, I'll let you in. No exceptions to the above criteria. ◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇ Question time! As a programmer, what sports do you do on the side? What defines a good library/framework? In your opinion, does clean code matter? ◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇◇ I'll be back in the next post. See y'all around!

@IroncladDev happy 17th birthday! 1. I play soccer, track and field, and some pickleball. I actually won my schools walk-a-thon and got a free Apple Watch SE + Celluar 2. A strong, easy to use, and a good documentation 3. Definitely. I can not read messy code. My friends always comment how clean it is.2 months ago
