A clear path forward

How do I ask Agent to make a change to an existing codebase?

Give Agent the repository link, explain what should change and describe the result you expect. You can request a fix, a feature or a broader change; the work is not limited to text or styling edits.

A clear goal helps Agent work on the right code and gives you a way to judge the result. Your team's repository instructions and relevant skills also guide how it works.

  1. Open the intended repo through Repos, then start or continue its chat.
  2. Describe the current behavior and what you want instead. Name any parts that must stay unchanged.
  3. Ask Agent to make the change and test the result in the running app, or with suitable checks if there is no web preview.
  4. Review the result, the changed files and any checks Agent could not run.

For a larger request, agree on the scope and useful milestones before the work starts. A focused first change is an easy way to learn the workflow, not a limit on what you can ask for. Keep your team's normal review and merge checks in place.

Copy this prompt and paste it into Agent. For a project issue, open the project where it happens first. Add what happened and anything you've already tried. Don't include passwords, API keys, database connection strings or payment-card details.

Copying does not open Agent or send a support request. Agent availability and usage depend on your account.
