Why is begging for upvotes so effective on repl
I mean most posts nowadays have a line saying "upvote because this helps me out". While this is already kinda bad, its acceptable. But there are also post full on begging for upvotes for no aparnet reason other than to earn even more upvotes. This is outrages. I think the begging posts should be deleted by the moderators or we should be able to downvote them
It's a shame u know. Cause I worked hard on a project for one month and I was really proud when it came out but then I see a program labelled 'my birthday' with like 30 upvotes when my project only got like 10 :(
I used to tell people to upvote in my posts but I don't really do it anymore because it isn't that effective for me
I don't get it why people cough cough (@DannyIsCoding) just post posts where they just say
"ohhh can u upvote cuz I need them wait for my G.O.O.S.E 2 project but u know what, still upvote. lol"
and I don't get it why people actually upvote like bruh seriously u get cycles not from being a beggar but from coding games programs webpages etc and THEN people upvote for our HARD WORK. I mean I understand that u make a super amazing program and u ask for people to like it... but even then its not really acceptable... what I do is I write in the code ITSELF
"Hey guys [...] and please if u like my game (program) like it to show ur support."
I agree with @Kopamed
I have no idea, it's like you make some dodgy ascii animation, and blam you're at the top of trending. ( @ChezCoder's animations are actually decent tho) .
My problem is when people make series of things. It's like like look what I made! Here it is again but with a different string or something ( @DanyIsCoding's doesn't count because they are actually different, but in the same 'universe')
@Kopamed i'm suprised at the amount of people upvoting bookie0's stuff, because it is the same (pretty low quality) thing pretty much over and and over again, just a different string. I'm pretty sure it is the same people that upvote their posts, so they can just post anything and they get pretty much guaranteed 30 upvotes or something from the same people each time
First of all, most of my posts aren’t that good, (simple animations, etc.) but also, many other people say “upvote” or “vote up” or upvote this” or “upvote this if you enjoyed, and many other variations. And their projects aren’t all bad, and they also think that their projects are good. I hope you understand :) @Kopamed
@johnstev111 @Kopamed, @Bookie0 is not really begging when he says to remember that upvoting is caring. He is just telling people to remember that upvoting is caring not that you should upvote. If you said sharing is caring, you wouldn't start sharing immediately but rather apply it to times when you share. So technically, Bookie0 isn't begging for upvotes.
Maybe there should be some kind of agreement that you must sign when you register a repl account that says you will only upvote posts that took effort to make and/or are useful in some way and will only post things that are useful or entertaining.
@HenryZelonka1 No, I don’t think that’s a good idea. I should be able to upvote what I want. What I like might to a total outsider look like a low quality post. Besides, many times it’s hard to tell if it’s genuinely a beginner showing off their first project they thought was cool or some dude begging with a no effort project.
It's also part of our job on this site to enjoy what has been thoroughly worked on and posted if you really enjoy it. This stuff with only text being shown is generally not exceptable unless a math equation or complex problem is presented. Other than that some projects posted are trash. Some are just blatant copies. Some of my stuff and some of other people's stuff dies in new because it does not present an All caps title or a beg. I and some other hard workers do this to help while others like the beggers do this for greed.
@Jakman The problem is it’s all relative, some posts I agree are just plain useless and clearly a low effort bid to get upvotes. Some so-called “clickbait projects” are cool, although you may not think so. Keep in mind many people on repl.it are beginners who are impressed by something I or you could probably make in 5 minutes.
All I say is "don't for get to upvote!" or something like that. But to be honest, I don't really care if you beg for upvotes in your post, as long as it's actually a good post.
@DynamicSquid Saying please upvote is already a huge turnoff for me, but then when i comment, and I say, "This is pretty nice", i absolutely hate it when they say, don't forget to upvote.
A trick that has worked for me is upvote when it doesnt have a lot, then when it gains traction, take away your upvote.
I know it was posted months ago, but come on what do the circles do anyway? Just some random numbers that are supposed to rank and divide us? Comments are what's important. If one created a good project, good , doesn't mean one should beg for upvotes just to raise his/her ego.
I don't really care since I upvote what I like and ignore if I don't like. I also do not beg for upvotes in my posts. (Though I still like Bookie0's "Upvoting is Caring" phrase)
What do you mean by begging posts? Some posts have good repls attached, and they want to get recognized for their hours of work they put into their project. However if it’s like a one liner with clearly no effort, and the description is “UPVOTE PLEASE”, yes that is bad. Report those kinds of posts, but keep in mind, many people spend a long time making whatever they are sharing.
