Oceania is a region made up of thousands of islands throughout the Central and South Pacific Ocean. It includes Australia, the smallest continent in terms of total land area. ... Oceania also includes three island regions: Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia (including the U.S. state of Hawaii).

Hope this helps

Oceania is not a continent in its own right, it's just referred to as a general area. Australia is the actual continent.

FlaminHotValdez

IMO Oceania is about as much of a continent as Siberia is a country, which is to say, not very much.

NZHacker808

@maxyang Siberia is not a country

FlaminHotValdez

@NZHacker808 My point exactly. Oceania is as much a continent as siberia is a country, meaning, it isn't a continent.

huhelena8

Australia be a continent

also this isnt really related to coding, but...:

Oceania is a region made up of thousands of islands throughout the Central and South Pacific Ocean. It includes Australia, the smallest continent in terms of total land area.

also:

Oceania is not officially or unofficially a continent. It is actually a region of the world that is defined by its location.

also:

As the country of Australia is mostly on a single landmass, and comprises most of the continent, it is sometimes informally referred to as an island continent, surrounded by oceans.

Happy coding and hope this helps! =)

Oceania is like Scandinavia, they are basically a group of countries, or in this case, continents and countries.

OK found it very funny: https://www.quora.com/If-Australia-is-a-continent-then-what-is-Oceania Some says oceania is and don't believe Australia is one but some says Australia is a comtinent and oceania is a region like you said @NDLFOREVER

k9chelsea2

idk geographicly Australia is defo a continent but there are always personal opionons e.g. I personally believe that the canary islands are African but Spanish people would disagree

NZHacker808

@NDLFOREVER Yeah always opinions

k9chelsea2

mm but in a geography test Oceania is a region and Australia a country and continent :3

NZHacker808

@NDLFOREVER Really?

NZHacker808

@NDLFOREVER What kind of geography test? High school?

NZHacker808
NZHacker808

@NDLFOREVER What country is that?

k9chelsea2

any geography test lol

k9chelsea2

wdym what country is that Australia?

NZHacker808

I meant where is that [email protected]

NZHacker808
NZHacker808

@NDLFOREVER It really depends on what country are you in lol

k9chelsea2

I read the quora thingy, the people that voted ocenia as continent where just saying it because of facts and opinions but in skool u r taught that australia is the continents, however the reason for people believing that is because Australia, NZ, Papua New Guinea are a part of oceania they think its a continent, but Oceania has multiple islands and a couple of countries which in my opinion is not enough to be called a continent as the majority of land is islands like UK for example, theres the british isles the channel islands but that doesn't make the UK or channel islands a continent, so oceniea is a region that holds Australia but also multiple islands, I personally call it Australia and ocenia lol

k9chelsea2

true thats whats taught in UK idk for you it might be different

NZHacker808

@NDLFOREVER From my name you should know that I live in NZ, if I don't even know what continent I'm in I would be an idiot

PattanAhmed

@NZHacker808 You live in

New Zealand

Right?
Hope this helps

k9chelsea2

ik ur from NZ

k9chelsea2

oof (quick tip if you want to know the answer you should ask somewhere else as this is not code related but I will give you my answer lol) to answer your question Oceania is not a continent but a region defined by its name, australia is a continent. australasia is a sub-region of ocenia

NZHacker808

@NDLFOREVER @PattanAhmed I believe Australia is only a country and oceania is a continent though

PattanAhmed

@NZHacker808 Australia is an Island.
And Oceania contains all the islands including Australia
Australia is a continent and Oceania is a geographic region that includes Australia, Melanesia, Micronesia, and Polynesia. Spanning the eastern and western hemispheres

Hope this helps,
