Monthly Repls - July 2021

Hiya replers! WE HAVE NEWS AGAIN!

Going through repl talk, I realized that even though it's been a while since Replit Apps came out, there are still a lot of posts on share board that have not been published on Apps. Seeing this, I have decided that we are back to MONTHLY REPLS and not just HIGHLIGHTS!

For those who don't know what these are, these are some of my favorite posts made on repl talk through the month of July (from the share, tutorials and templates boards to be exact). This is the reason why these are a little late this time, I had a last minute change of mind and it took a while going through all the share board posts.

Please note that if you submitted a project and it isn't here, it is not necessarily a bad post, I may have missed it (I am a human despite my name being TheDrone7, yes) or I may have not liked it but others will so leave it in the comment section!

Anyways, here they are!

Starting off the month is @IMayBeMe 's guide to How computers work - a very basic yet detailed guide to digital logic.

Followed by @MocaCDeveloper's tutorial on OS dev which actually teaches you how to make your own REAL operating system (16 bit so not really practical but very cool nonetheless). Check out the part 2 as well while you're at it.

Next up, we have @InvisibleOne teaching everyone how to code a discord bot in ruby that tells dad jokes.

@PixiGem created a basic image editor in the web (and yes, it actually works)

@sn236 made this very simple page that just looks beautiful with hearts spawning from your cursor over a black background. They also developed A fan with a working button WITHOUT ANY JS.

@ruiwenge2 developed a fully functional video chat web app.

And we have @InvisibleOne once again with a really cool idea of turning rock paper scissors game into a completely new game!

We also have @sojs with their version of the snake game with a twist!

And finally, @Bookie0 made a gallery of different styles of commonly used pages!

Finally, any constructive feedback is appreciated! And be sure to see the comments section just in case someone else has left one for you to check out.

And finally now, that's all for this month. See you all next month with another set of monthly highlights.

Aw man... i was getting used to apps...

StringentDev

@amasad I need to bring to your attention (i cant report it as standard because my email was locked by microsoft FOR SENDING AN EMAIL TO SOMEONE WHO EMAILED ME) that HTML, CSS and JS repls are showing 404 errors no matter where I go, even if i remove my explorer option, telling me it is a problem with your server, can you pleases delegate this to the engineers of the website, thank you.

Sorry @TheDrone7 that i have to do this here.

TheDrone7

@StringentDev you don't have to mention Amjad. Three is a little get help button you can use from the sidebar for such things

StringentDev

@TheDrone7 My email is locked by microsoft so i cant do that option as it requires your email to be unlocked.

IMayBeMe

@StringentDev I have been experiencing the same issue as well

ShaneAtReplit

@IMayBeMe @StringentDev Can you try clearing your cache? If that doesn't help, email me at [email protected] with the links to the problematic repls so I can take a look!

StringentDev

@ShaneAtReplit yeah i've tried that multiple times, even clearing cookies and still nothing. With me it just happens to ANY html, css, js repl (and im not gonna give you the url of every html repl on replit because i dont have that time... literally, it wont even load them on repl talk.

IMayBeMe

@ShaneAtReplit I tried clearing my cache but that didn’t seem to fix the issue. As of now, the html repls look as though they are loading normally before then bringing up a 404 page. It’s still affecting every single html repl I look at

RayhanADev

@IMayBeMe @StringentDev @ShaneAtReplit
For more input I am not experiencing the same problem at 4:05PM UTC-6.

ShaneAtReplit

@StringentDev @IMayBeMe @RayhanADev I've flagged this to the team to investigate! Thanks for the info!

StringentDev

@ShaneAtReplit ok, thanks :D

JakeHu2020

@StringentDev just make a python flask one to open html

StringentDev

@JakeHu2020 not when you have a challenge to do... in which i just missed week 2.

firefish

@JakeHu2020 python baf

JakeHu2020

@firefish how about nodejs express?

StringentDev

@JakeHu2020 thats what i specialise in. Also it seems to be happening on mobile only.

JakeHu2020

@StringentDev but still I recommend not using nodejs express if possible, because just creating the most simple express app will take 2mb of storage.

StringentDev

@JakeHu2020 I have my own server templates you know. Also id rather use it thank you, jeez what do people on replit have against nodejs.

Next thing you'll be recommending PHP which is 2/3 times slower than express.

firefish

@JakeHu2020 nodejs good

StringentDev

@firefish ikr, we are using it for a programming lang. Also Inertia is for the the website. I only build stuff if i need it.
