A clear path forward
Why can't Agent find my repository, or why does it create a new app?
Give Agent the full GitHub or GitLab repository URL and say that you want to change that existing codebase, not create a new app. A project name alone may not identify the target clearly.
Your Replit project and an external repository are different destinations. A precise link helps Agent choose the right workflow, but it does not grant access your connected account lacks.
- Open Repos in the workspace where you are working.
- Confirm that the correct Git account can access the exact repo.
- Share its full URL and state the change you want. For example: “Work on this existing repository: [repository URL]. Do not create a replacement project.”
- Check that Agent is using the intended repo before it makes changes.
If access is denied, check the selected account and repository permissions rather than repeating the prompt. If Agent still chooses the wrong target with the full URL and valid access, retain the prompt, workspace and chat link for the next troubleshooting step.

Copy this prompt and paste it into Agent. For a project issue, open the project where it happens first. Add what happened and anything you've already tried. Don't include passwords, API keys, database connection strings or payment-card details.
Copying does not open Agent or send a support request. Agent availability and usage depend on your account.
