From Classroom Idea to 1,400 Downloads Overnight: How Noni Built Bamboo Classroom with Replit
A UK primary school teacher turned her vision for more engaging learning into an interactive app—and found a community of educators building alongside her.
The Challenge
Noni Ansari wanted to give children a more interactive way to learn.
As a primary school teacher, she saw an opportunity to move beyond familiar teaching methods and create something students could explore and play with.
“Education methods over the years haven’t changed much,” she says. “So, I wanted to create something that was a lot more engaging for the way children learn.”

The idea became Bamboo Classroom, an educational app designed to make learning more engaging for primary school children. But before she could build it, Noni faced a challenge of her own: learning how to code.
Why Replit
Noni had tried to learn programming, but found it difficult. Then an advertisement for Replit appeared.
“And I thought, ‘What’s the harm? I’ll just give it a try.’”
That decision gave her a different way to build. Rather than first mastering a programming language, she could describe what she wanted in everyday words.
“I would type in a prompt and it just created this functional app after about 5–6 minutes,” she says.

This wasn’t the entire journey to a finished App Store release. It was the moment she could see a working app emerge from her idea—and realise that building software was something she could do.
Building with Replit
Bamboo Classroom brings play and interaction into primary learning, with subjects including science, writing, and history.
“You can interact with it, play with it,” Noni explains. “Gives you the relevant information for a primary school level.”

The app reflects the perspective Noni brought to the project: an educator thinking about how children engage with a lesson, not just what information they need to receive.
Replit gave her a way to turn that perspective into software using language she already knew.
“You can use everyday normal language to create whatever you want on there,” she says.
For Noni, the surprise wasn’t simply how quickly something appeared. It was that she, a teacher without a technical background, could create a functional app herself.
Value Realized
Seeing her app on the App Store made the achievement feel real.
“I couldn’t believe I have an app with the developer name there as well,” Noni recalls. “And I thought, ‘Oh, that’s me.’”
Then came a result she hadn’t expected.
“One night I went to bed and I woke up and I had 1,400 downloads overnight,” she says. “And I was like, ‘There must be something wrong with it. It can’t be real.’”
Replit’s Bamboo Classroom launch materials connect that milestone to the app’s release on the App Store. What began as an idea for more engaging classroom learning was reaching an audience beyond Noni’s own students.
Building also introduced her to other people on a similar journey. Through a Replit Buildathon, Noni met Nadia, who suggested they start a podcast.

“She asked me and I said, ‘We don’t have a technical background.’ And she said, ‘Exactly.’”
Their shared lack of a technical background became the reason to tell the story: to show people like themselves the apps they could build and the problems they could solve.
Noni didn’t need to leave her identity as a teacher behind to become an app creator. Her teaching experience was the reason to build.
With Replit, she could move from wanting a more interactive learning experience to creating one—and from building for her own classroom to sharing that work more widely.

“Engagement is key, especially in learning,” she says, “and Replit’s made that possible.”
