The New Workspace
The New WorkspaceWe are redesigning the Workspace! If you have feedback on the new design, please leave a comment below! 50% of you will slowly get this over the next week so we can get feedback. These changes are focused on making it easier to open tools and customize the workspace without sacrificing simplicity. Ideally these changes don't affect your day-to-day coding too much.

We just started rolling out the new workspace redesign to everyone. 50% of you should get it over the next week- let us know what you think after playing with it!

@tyler I like it, but Dock seems a bit much. What about people who are new? Yeah, it's really good for people who know what they're doing, but I don't xD. Maybe you should keep it default until everyone gets it, but keep an option to switch back. (I don't mean that for just Dock.) Hope it helps.5 months ago

@doxr could you tell me what seems a bit much about the dock specifically? For people who are new, remember - they haven’t seen the old workspace at all! 5 months ago

@tyler The dock seems to overcomplicate things, at least a little. Regarding your comment on people who haven't seen the old workspace, I think they should. You know when you launch the first repl, you get a little pop-up tour, you should add a slide that shows them the setting to go back, and maybe prompt them to toggle it to see how it is or maybe add a picture on the slide to show them. Back to dock, for the specificity of why dock seems big, it's all the features that I haven't noticed that's now flashing in my face (this reason isn't a good one, because I do know the importance of them, I just didn't use them and I guess this is specifically for me, so maybe, if you right click, you can hide elements), and the size of dock, it's blocking my view of files. Some repls have a bunch of files and that will be annoying a little bit (I use a Chromebook so what's already a small screen gets even smaller, yes I know it's adjustable but then again it goes back to the right-click part). Also, seeing that replit has a new workspace, I'm gonna recommend these: Upload many folders at once: if you can upload many files, why not folders? It's kind of an inconvenience uploading one by one, and doing that for some projects is a nightmare Download specific folders: sometimes I need to download this one folder and so to download it I need to download the entire repl as a zip and then open it in Files and extract it out. Personalization: This is kinda a lot but maybe changing the color of the text (for when you're trying a tutorial and if all the colors are different you can have a hard time if you're new or just codistically challenged (me) Replit right-click menu: for features that you use in replit, you can implement those features to be more accessible using Replit's custom right-click menu like my download folder idea (like instead of the regular chrome box thingy that pops up when you right click a cool one made by replit Thanks for the time (seriously though that was long.)5 months ago

Participate in Replit + Stanford Research
Hi there! Replit ⠕ and the Stanford Graduate School of Education 🌲 are working together to study tools for creativity and learning! We’re recruiting research participants for a Zoom study next week. Here's what's going on: We currently have some experimental prototypes designed specifically for creative coding. The study should take about one hour, and we will send a $20 gift card as a token of our appreciation afterwards. The task will be on Zoom and will involve you trying out some open-ended tasks in p5.js with the experimental IDE we have built. Then you’ll share some feedback on the IDE. If you’re interested and willing, you can fill out the Google form here and sign up for a slot Requirements: You must be 18 years or older You must have some prior experience with p5.js or other generative art tools. You must have Zoom and you must be comfortable with the video being recorded. Do note that the Zoom recordings will only be used for the team’s reference; they will never be shared outside of the research team. Thanks in advance – we really, really appreciate your help!

Text your Repl with the Twilio API
hi everyone! super small project–you can actually just text your repl and itll run code for you! i wanted to see if this was possible. in this example, you can text it shell commands and itll run them! you can do things like create files, write to them, and traverse the repl's file system. all you have to do is signup for twilio, get your API key, setup your twilio number (and a few other details that you'll see in some tutorials / explained in the code), and you'll be on your way to talking to the machine

Send feedback on Community
Hiya everybody! We're running an experiment on a new design for Community, and we'd love for you to leave some feedback here. If you press run in the Repl, you can read a little more in depth about why we are doing this and the questions we are facing. You are a part of the experimental group if your Community page looks something like this ⬇️otherwise, you have the old design. Screen Shot 2022-01-21 at 5.27.09 PM

@NoelB33 explorers have seen this for a while now! Yes, you can’t ask questions directly because that’s not what we are focusing on— you can read more in the post. It actually was one of the least used features, especially compared to sharing repls, surprisingly! 1 year ago

@tangert Wow, surprising. Also, the only real issue I have is that the page takes forever to on very fast internet. Usually it’s around 5 seconds.1 year ago

@tangert How do you ask questions? This design is definitely not good for beginners or intermediates. I like replit because I can ask other coders for help!1 year ago
