Thank you repl.it! You are amazing! To see everybody that appreciates you, tap the ‘Thank you!’ button. If you are a user that is as thankful as I am, say so in the comments, and I’ll add you to the list.
Edit: Whoo-hoo! We’re doing great! Can we get to 100 appreciations?

@CodeABC123 thanks repl.it team. Can you add me?

[deleted]

Yes, of course. @Codemonkey51

sugarfi

Yeah, repl.it is great! One thing though: it is not technically free and open source. According to GNU, truly free websites cannot use obfuscated JS, which repl.it does.

AdCharity

:| pretty sure that's just minimization and SSR @sugarfi

AdCharity

@sugarfi plus idk if they'd really give you server code either

sugarfi

@AdCharity minimization is basically obfuscation: add = (a, b) => { a + b} // Adds two numbers versus a=(aa,b)=>aa+b

AdCharity

@sugarfi It's readable - it's just jsx so it looks all cramped together

sugarfi

@AdCharity (this)[https://browser.sentry-cdn.com/5.5.0/bundle.min.js] is readable? if it has .min in the name, is is minified, and thus obfuscated.

AdCharity

@sugarfi that's a service :| just because some components on repl are reliant on third parties doesn't mean it's not open source.

sugarfi

@AdCharity yes it does. From gnu.org:

Silently loading and running nonfree programs is one among several issues raised by "web applications".

AdCharity

@sugarfi most of the components repl is based on may include minified sources but they also have unminified scripts on npm or github. I think you mean to say that repl itself is open source (or at least the front end is) but its entirety is compromised by potentially unfree programs.

AdCharity

@sugarfi that was an interesting talk tho I should start adding licenses to my code now lmao

sugarfi

@AdCharity yeah, free and open source is good. It is very eye-opening to read some of the articles on gnu.org.
