Split-Flap Display Online
h
Vandesm14 (2759)

Have you ever seen the split-flap displays in older airports or train stations? If not, they look like this:

I have recently been mystified by them and wondered if there was a virtual one to re-live the past. Since I couldn't find a virtual one that actually simulated the display's sound and function, I decided to make one myself!

Warning: The sound may be loud so make sure you lower your volume to save your ears!

You can find the demo site here: https://splitflap.vandesm14.repl.co/

@Vandesm14

@CyberHacker101 I can't believe that it's that loud for people. On my device (FF on Win 10), it's pretty quiet even for high-volume. Maybe it's because others are using Chrome or Safari?

CyberHacker101 (137)

Im using both chrome and safari the safari one is a bit quiet but the chrome one is hell on earth lol @Vandesm14

Vandesm14 (2759)

@CyberHacker101 That makes more sense. Thanks for the insight!

CyberHacker101 (137)

np hey do you know why posts get locked? @Vandesm14

Vandesm14 (2759)

@CyberHacker101 Posts get locked usually because they're doing something illegal or we just don't want people to comment or upvote as it's breaking another rule

CyberHacker101 (137)

wait posts can be illegal? @Vandesm14

Vandesm14 (2759)

@CyberHacker101 Not crazy illegal, just like things that we don't want the community to comment or upvote such as plagiarized content or stuff that breaks ToS of other sites (bots, DoS, etc)

Imagine being good at html,css, and js, lmao couldn't be me

GhostKing007 (155)

This is so cool! Also, I take pride in being one of the people who did actually read the warning lmao

Vandesm14 (2759)

@GhostKing007 Lol nice! Apparently Chrome deals with the volume differently so it'll be super loud on Chrome and super quiet on FireFox

GhostKing007 (155)

@Vandesm14 - Ah, that's why I couldn't here anything, I'm on Firefox. Also, is it like some sort of a thing on replit to reply to a comment within 5 minutes? Every comment I post, 5 minutes and a reply pops up.

Vandesm14 (2759)

@GhostKing007 I just am quick to reply. Some people are quicker than I am as they are more active on the platform.

Vandesm14 (2759)

@FlaminHotValdez That's why I put a warning 🙃

FlaminHotValdez (750)

@Vandesm14 I did...

and my ears are still ringing

IMayBeMe (614)

This is amazing! I love how this one of the first good html/css/js projects which actually incorporate a good bit of logic.

Vandesm14 (2759)

@IMayBeMe Thanks! I'm glad you like it!

Bookie0 (6560)

Skipped reading the warning and got an earrape :(

But still very fun! :D

Vandesm14 (2759)

@Bookie0 Yeah, I should probably move the warning up a bit.

Whippingdot (718)

Very good, but WAY too loud. I was at 2 volume and I could still here it very loudly...

Vandesm14 (2759)

@Whippingdot I'm not really sure why the volume is so loud with this thing. I have the volume internally at 0.2 which is pretty low. I think this issue is due to poor sound design and playback, which is mainly the sound lib's fault.

Whippingdot (718)

lul hating on a lib is the only thing a coder can do @Vandesm14

Vandesm14 (2759)

@DynamicSquid Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
