Replol (Google)

Profile icon
JBloves27

Finally! I've finished!
Anyways, this is a "website" I made using python. It isn't really a website, but I made it like one. I've thought about lots of websites, and well, I thought about google.

Steps:
There aren't steps, as this isn't really a game. But one thing you should do is try typing help. There are other "websites" in the original web, Replol. I named it this for Repl and Google mixed.

Credits:
I give credits to many people. I made a wiki using

@PDanielY
's name: Replpedia. I also give credits to
@Bookie0
for many python tutorials!
Just another note, I don't want to be too specific, I'm not trying to offend anyone! :)

Anyways, Thank you for all the help and tutorials.
-Expect a Amazon and Youtube later!
-pls, pls, pls, give ANY suggestions!
-BYE!
-please upvote if you like it!
-Another BIG note, I may not be able to read all the comments, busy with school. :|

BYE!

You should link it to Google somehow for search results. Very good though :)

Profile icon
JBloves27

Yes, that is a good idea, but how do you link searches? [email protected]

Profile icon
UCYT5040

You can link a Google search like this:
https://www.google.com/search?q=hi
q=multi+line use + for multiple lines

Hey

@JBloves27
, I know I came to this post realllly late and you probably don't even care about this, but you can actually link google searches using selenium. So you can use python, to interact with the JS and HTML on the screen, type wha the user did, and provide results.

Yeah, just wanted to help LOL

Lol, i saw in other comments. Thanks tho! I think i might use thst in other posts! :D

I havent seen many suggestions in your comment section... So here is one! In stead of just chaining if statements together(Even though this would be equally as spaghetti), you could do something like this, use a dictionary for the search bar thing, so instead of just having ifs you could have ummm a dictionary i guess... here this is what i am saying

searchdict={ "repl":'REPL\n1. A coding website designed with all kinds of languages. \nEX. Python, HTML, C+, Ruby, etc.\n\n2. A website designed for coders\nEX. Many, many, many people...\n" } def search():#idk the name of your search thing print("Search stuff here") thing=input().lower()#lowercase if thing in searchdict.keys:#This is a list of all the keys in the dictionary, for now just repl print(searchdict[thing])#Prints the search bar thing input69("y for another word/n for homepage") else: #Stuff here(Or just delete the else) for if the search isnt in your dictionary

You could add all the search terms to the dictionary, like python and css, and with this method it would be very easy to add search terms

Also i dont really know how to explain it, but if you want i can like teach you it

Profile icon
JBloves27

Ok, it does seem very confusing, lol. Thanks for the suggestion though! And yes, maybe teaching it may be better. Do you have a time good for you?

@JBYT27
umm well 1) that was fast and 2) i have school in like 20 minutes, for me its 8:40 AM, i can do stuff around 4:00 pm for me, or in about 8(ish) hours

Profile icon
JBloves27

Yes, it was very fast! And same, i'm pretty much already in school, so yeah, I think I can do it around the same time as you. But maybe at 4:30? or 5:00?

@Muffinlavania

@JBYT27

Profile icon
JBloves27

Yeah, just checked, and I am. ok, see you later

@Muffinlavania
Edit: so what time? Edit: nvm, so 5:00?

Profile icon
Muffinlavania

@JBYT27

Cool! Though I'd probably choose a slightly different name (maybe Grepgle?) since it sounds like repl+lol.

Profile icon
JBloves27

Yeah, it does sound a bit weird, but I think repl needs to be in the name, to make repl stand out?

@fuzzyastrocat

@JBYT27
Grepgle

Or Greple if you like, I just think grepgle is the best combination of the two words' "traits"

Profile icon
JBloves27

ohhhh, Nice! Got it, though I do prefer my way :) No offence

@fuzzyastrocat

@JBYT27

@JBYT27
No problem!

Profile icon

Just a note, it doesn't have that much of google bc I was trying to make the web name 6 letters, like google :)

@fuzzyastrocat

Profile icon
fuzzyastrocat

@JBYT27
Yeah... maybe repgle? It's an even split of 3 and 3 letters from each

Profile icon
JBloves27

hmmm... idk about that one

You should use functions instead of a lot of if statements.

Profile icon
JBloves27

Yeah, I would do that too, but how should I name the if statements?

@ZDev1

Profile icon

@JBYT27
you can't name the if statements, but you can name functions

For the search i looked at ur code and thats a lot of if statements. You could just do.

import wikipedia

wikipedia.summary(whatever the input thingy is)

and if u want stuff thats not on wikipedia then just put it in. Like

if whatever input is=='JBYT27':
whatever

else:
wikipedia.summary(input thingy)

Profile icon
JBloves27

Yeah, lots of people told me about that. I may make a improved version on this

@ChezTacoz

Profile icon

I have encountered an error with replpedia. I typed a search and it said y for another word n for homepage. So I typed n and it brought me back to replpedia. Also for replpedia you can just use the wikipedia library. Also, also you can use .lower or .upper so that it will give the same result even if the user changes the case. Other than that great code!!!

JBloves27

Ok, thanks for letting me know! And thanks!
