I noticed a new button called Shell beside the Console in the HTML, CSS and JS template; I was curious as to how I can use it and what is it for.

The shell console allows you to type in commands that add new files, and remove files. It's kind of like the programmatic way to manage your computer.

you can use the shell for lots of stuff like typing in commands, or installing something, or testing out how your code runs. It helps manage the code you run, and how it's run.

That's basically it

"Shell" is a separate Bash shell, "Console" is either a Bash shell or a REPL for the language you are using. It is also used as the output.

The shell console is pretty much the bash shell. replit is built off of linux. You have access to many of linux's commands. for example, rm index.html will delete the file index.html.
