What are Repl.it's guidelines for non-English posts?
DynamicSquid

I see quite a few non-English posts around here, and after some talk with other users, I was wondering, what should I do about it?

In the official guidelines, it states:

For now, we're not supporting non-English languages. This is due to the fact that majority of our users speak only English, and it's hard to moderate posts in other languages.

But what does that mean? Is it referring to a helpful comment in the post? Or something more like a report?

I know Russian and English and translate comments is easy for me

Bookie0

I guess it’s hard to moderate posts in other languages because most repl.it moderators must be English-speakers only. But I don’t think you need to report a post like that, I don’t think it would do anything...
Btw I also speak French. Idk just saying lol

DynamicSquid

@Bookie0 Oh, I'm taking French in school. I'm learning pass tense with the verb "etre" and "avoir". Could you please explain how I know if I have to user "etre" or "avoir" when making a sentence pass tense? For example:

"Je vais au supermarché"

How do I know I have to use "J'ai" instead of "Je suis"?

Bookie0

J’ai means i have
Eg: j’ai mangé une pomme (i ate un apple, passé composé)

Je suis means i am.
Eg: je suis un calamar ( i am a squid) present tense

!if you need help, feel free to contact me! (For free, no upvotes needed! :) @DynamicSquid

DynamicSquid

@Bookie0 Oh, so Mrs. and Dr. Vandertramp is only used for etre?

Bookie0

Uh who are they? And what do you mean by they are used for être?but if you are saying Mrs and dr. Vandertrump are nice, for example, then you use être, but with plural tense (sont) @DynamicSquid

DynamicSquid

@Bookie0 Oh, I guess they only teach that in school. But they are acronyms.

Bookie0

Whaaaaa i never heard of that lol. So you understand? @DynamicSquid

DynamicSquid

@Bookie0 well, I'm just confused. So the verbs on that list, are they only used for etre?

Bookie0

Yep, not avoir. Those verbs use être before @DynamicSquid

DynamicSquid

@Bookie0 oh... okay, I get it now, thanks!

Bookie0

:) if you have questions, feel free to reach out to me!
Au revoir! @DynamicSquid

PYer

Hey cool! I speak French fluently, and I can read it very well.
The only problem is my spelling is horrible. @Bookie0

Bookie0

Bonsoir! C’est cool d’avoir une autre personne qui peut écrire en Français 🇫🇷 @PYer
On peut se dire des choses en secret sans que les autres nous comprennent!
Lol

PYer

@Bookie0

DynamicSquid

@PYer and @Bookie0 I got this.

ah yes! the only problem is after some who sent a message, I need to confirm. I did not make it here (so don't blame me)

Ah no, it is not serious, I also made some mistakes. It is truly a funny impression of someone speaking french, I am living and writing in french, all the time on repl.it

What that close enough?

Also, that's a reflexive verb: ne me blamez pas

Here's another example:

Je me lave les mains

I'm learning!

Bookie0

Lol, aussi, tu n’a pas besoin de vouvoyer, (mais si tu veux on peut), on peut se tutoyer Plutôt. @PYer
J’espère qu’un jour, on pourrai faire un repl ensemble... passe une excellente journée!

Bookie0

C’est bien! Continue d’apprendre! French issss gutttt @DynamicSquid
@PYer
And by the way, I’m learning mandarin if anyone wants to know...

DynamicSquid

@Bookie0 thanks!

PYer

@Bookie0 et toi! (je ne pense pas que je vais faire un repl, je suis très occupé)

Bookie0
Bookie0

D’accord, no worries! Peut être un autre jour on pourra se parler @PYer

Bookie0
oignons

@Bookie0 I am learning mandarin atm. :)

Bookie0

Lol cool! @ipastrano

oignons

@Bookie0 thanks! do you want to work on our project together?

studentAlfredAl

studentAlfredAl

studentAlfredAl

J'aimerais beaucoup apprendre le français! :) @Bookie0

Bookie0

Bookie0

C’est bien! Continue d’apprendre @studentAlfredAl

studentAlfredAl

true :) @Bookie0

@DynamicSquid
Most verbs use avoir for the past tense, but certain ones use etre. The ones that use etre can easily be remembered with the mnemonic DR & MRS VANDERTRAMP.

@Bookie0
Je pense que vous avez oublie de compter sur la force de traduction google. Je suis en traine d'apprendre le Francais, alors excusez moi si je fais les erreurs.

Bookie0

Ok c’est bien. Moi je parle français, pas besoin de google translate :) @HenryZelonka1

HenryZelonka1

@Bookie0
(I'll explain in English so because I'm better at English)
I meant that when you said you could talk without the other replers (On peut se dire des choses en secret sans que les autres nous comprennent!
)understanding you, that they could always use googe transalet to figure it out.

Bookie0

Oh ok, ye that was just a joke lol ;) @HenryZelonka1

HenryZelonka1

@Bookie0 I know, my answer was kinda a joke, too:)

CodingCactus

If I see a post in another language (ask post) I just translate it (google) and answer in English

AmazingMech2418

@CodingCactus Same. Google Translate isn't the best there is, but it works for what you need to do.

DynamicSquid
ChezTacoz

@CodingCactus the problem with google translate is that it can change the words.

CodingCactus

@ChezTacoz yh, but it gets the rough idea of the text

ChezTacoz

@CodingCactus unless the text is super long
