StackOverflow Hate Land ~~Typewriter Effect that Parses HTML in React/Nextjs~~
h
RayhanADev (2698)

Edit: Just hate StackOverflow in the comments lol

The people on StackOverflow are meanies ;-;.

I want to typewrite some HTML stored as a string with NextJS. Seeing that NextJS uses React I would think that a React Component or the like would be useful, although I can't find any that actually parses the HTML when typing.

What I'm trying to achieve can be found in this jsfiddle (or the code below), and the package that was used can be found here.

Any tips on how to achieve this in using a React or NextJS component would be very helpful. Thanks!

Someone should come up with a form of stack overflow where you are expected to do research but the priority is answering the poster's question first before giving polite, CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

Coder100 (19280)

ahhh
easy

explanation: hooks allow you to change text, so change text smh

RayhanADev (2698)

@Coder100 but I'm pretty sure that doesn't parse HTML lollers.

Coder100 (19280)

I mean you can just change the html output manually
if (...) return <strong>...</strong> @RayhanADev

As a stack overflow user, (I think the question has already been answered), it can be annoying when you try to help somebody, and the question has been asked incorrectly, or has been answered already. (I assume this is what the comments were about). StackOverflow is pretty clear about how to ask questions, and it's kind of annoying when people don't read it. If you are a new user, it specifically tells people when they comment to be nice and that you are a new user. Then, you'll usually see comments that are nice and supportive. I don't know if that is what you did or not, I'm just sharing this for everybody to see :)

mollthecoder (35)

Stackoverflow is the Q&A site where answering your questions and giving good user experiences is not a priority!

codingjlu (493)

I got banned from questions because I got really confused with nodejs :( (and got four downvotes). #stackOveflowHateLand

RayhanADev (2698)

@novaflippers @Coder100 I figured it out, just a manner of slightly tweaking my code to work around a lib here!

Coder100 (19280)

Wait don't tell me you used refs @RayhanADev

[deleted]

Lets go repltalk

And dont be a bully stack overflow

But the library should work lol

RayhanADev (2698)

@Coder100 um

lmfao

[deleted]

So what you mean is just turning the code into a react/next component, or as I call it, ✨ reactify ✨ or ✨ futureify ✨ lol

RayhanADev (2698)

@novaflippers i want to implement this code that's written for vanilla/normal javascript into something useable in React. I've tried useEffect (although I don't think I'm using it properly) and it hasn't been working? Do you know how to make this ✨ reactify ✨ this?

[deleted]

@RayhanADev I know react but I dont use it often, Ill try tho and let you know what i get

codingjlu (493)

THE PEOPLE IN STACKOVERFLOW ARE MEANIES THAT'S WHY YOU DOWNVOTE EVERYONE ELSE I'M WRITING IN ALL CAPS BECAUSE I'M MAD AT REPLIT BECAUSE MY CODE ISN'T LOADING... BTW HOW MUCH REPUTATION DO YOU HAVE AND WHAT'S YOUR USERNAME?

ch1ck3n (2882)

The people on StackOverflow are meanies ;-;.

they banished me from their lands just to make ONE MEME REFERENCE IN MY QUESTION AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

RayhanADev (2698)

@ch1ck3n Iiterally asked this question and someone downvoted because I used the Next.js tag like fr? Anyways I tried to do this on my own and couldn't figure it out :P

ch1ck3n (2882)

@RayhanADev relatable
i like replit better because people get memes and our sense of humor

RayhanADev (2698)

@ch1ck3n I like Replit because the community is just awesome lmao

codingjlu (493)

@RayhanADev Yes Stack Overflow is just for downvoting :)

ch1ck3n (2882)

@codingjlu i just came back from a downvoting spree

(revenging)

[deleted]

@RayhanADev
i like replit just bc it feels more of one big family rather than some coding forum with people who you dont know...

codingjlu (493)

@ch1ck3n lol there's this post on meta that has like 10,000 downvotes which sadly got deleted

Baconman321 (1115)

@ch1ck3n Flex I got 538 (responding to other comment but squishing it together to one comment instead of two).

I got question banned ;-;

@RayhanADev From what I learned, it's probably because you didn't try hard enough.

StackOverflow doesn't take kindly to "simple easily google-able " questions and questions that either have typos in them or aren't going to be useful to future post visitors.

Only use StackOverflow as a last resort... or else you will end up with the same consequence as I have (6 months until I can ask one more question in which it may or may not get me out of the ban)!

NGL, your question sounds like something I would downvote (no hard feelings tho).

Do some more research, and be more specific. What have you tried? What do you need help with? What does and doesn't work?

Answering these will help you be a better asker :)

Baconman321 (1115)

@codingjlu On meta people typically downvote to show disagreement vs low-effort posts.

RayhanADev (2698)

@Baconman321 rip, good thing is I didn't get banned I'm a good child

StackOverflow doesn't take kindly to "simple easily google-able "

If it was Google-able I probably wouldn't have asked on stackoverflow.

Do some more research, and be more specific.

Well I did do research, I just didn't know how to transfer something into a react usable thing. I've been using React/Nextjs for like 2 months ngl. Great thing to know Stackoverflow does not care at all for codingh newbs lmfao.

Only use StackOverflow as a last resort

Lesson learned!

mollthecoder (35)

@Baconman321 I got answer banned and I can't seem to fix my mistake.

ch1ck3n (2882)

@ch1ck3n This is the stack overflow hate land lol

Baconman321 (1115)

@RayhanADev https://meta.stackoverflow.com/q/261592

Google your question like you are mad >:)

Often times I am like "OOOO I had a good question for SO now I'm banned", but then I use my brain and figure it out :D

Baconman321 (1115)

@mollthecoder
https://meta.stackexchange.com/questions/86997/what-can-i-do-when-getting-we-are-no-longer-accepting-questions-answers-from-th

Do the same but with answers. Try to edit/format your answers and/or change them to be a better and more clear answer if you can.

Also, really think about the problem. Is your answer going to help them, or make their programming lives worse?

Don't ask a question in an answer, EVER!!!

If you can't, then just wait 6 months.
However, when answering that one question (then your ban goes on again, but that one answer may be enough to get you out) really think. Is your answer good? Does it even work? Does it answer the entire question?

Link me your account, I'll upvote the answers you have that I think are good.

I don't want to downvote the ones that are bad, so I'll leave them the same (because it takes away 1 reputation for every time you downvote).

RayhanADev (2698)

@ch1ck3n changed the title accordingly lmao

Baconman321 (1115)

@mollthecoder How many downvotes does it have?

You shouldn't be answer banned. Maybe a cooldown is placed on you, what does it say when trying to post an answer?

mollthecoder (35)

@Baconman321 We are no longer accepting answers from this account. See the Help Center to learn more

codingjlu (493)

@Baconman321 people are a lot meaner on meta though

Baconman321 (1115)

@mollthecoder Hm, ok. Ask on meta why that happened if it's only one answer. Did you delete any answers?

Give me a link of the question with the answer (click "share" under your answer and copy-paste the link that comes up)

Baconman321 (1115)

@mollthecoder Hmm, looks ok (I gave you a vote but otherwise 0).

Very interesting.

Check if you have any deleted answers, and also ask on meta (if you have no deleted answers, because otherwise that's what would cause your ban).

mollthecoder (35)

@Baconman321 It seems there was a single deleted answer that was deleted by an admin for seems like no reason.

Baconman321 (1115)

@mollthecoder Ah, ok. That might be the case, but IDK...

mollthecoder (35)

@Baconman321 Maybe there's an admin that doesn't like me

Baconman321 (1115)

@mollthecoder No one can question/answer ban you, only the internal system can do that :/

I really don't know at this point, man. Ask on meta and they might help...

ch1ck3n (2882)

@mollthecoder everyone in stack overflow thinbks theire better than everyone else just because they had 10 years of expirience
