Share your Always On repls

Just announced Always On! From the blog:

Always On repls can be pretty useful for a variety of programs and unlock many long-requested features. The most obvious and commonly requested is for web servers. If you're tired of waiting for your webserver to wake up every time you visit, Always On is a great way to fix that. But Always On isn't just for web repls, regular old repls work too! If you have a cron job you'd like to run on a schedule, Always On makes it super easy. Discord bots, Slack bots, and other chat bots with a persistent outbound connection are another great use for Always On. And if you have a workload that's taking a long time (like say scraping a site), you can Always On the repl and go one with your life.

I'm curious what other use-cases have people found for it? Share your repls below and tell us how you're using it.

When I turn on always-on, then I can't turn it off. When I do, it later automatically turns it back on or has a error

IntellectualGuy (823)

@XThacker I had the same problem, the way I fixed it was turn it off, and then quickly leave the repl, but this problem needs to be addressed.

@IntellectualGuy oh, that works. thx

@amasad yay :D! It works now

Codemonkey51 (1057)

Idk, says I already have 5 and that I've reached max, but idk what 5 repls it thinks are always on

xxpertHacker (930)

@Codemonkey51 They should add something to tell you what Repls are "always on," I believe that was mentioned from the very beginning.

Codemonkey51 (1057)

They should add like a special folder that virtually contains all always on repls (virtually as in they are listed there but don't exist in that "folder") @xxpertHacker

xxpertHacker (930)

@Codemonkey51 Are you suggesting that they add that, or is that what there already is?

amasad (3447)

@Codemonkey51 yeah me too haha; will add a way to find them soon.

SorenRood (2)

I have a few always-on repls

One that scrapes the SEC website looking for a certain type of form.
The other scrapes yahoo finance for various SPAC merger articles.

These forms/articles usually come out at like 3-5 AM pst so it's useful having them going 24/7.

You can see it in action here.

Please dont remove pinging services lol

HarperframeInc (456)

I don't have hacker but it would be useful for calculating algebra questions.

MythEdits (0)

@HarperframeInc Why? you're inputs can only happen when the tab is open how would you really make it automated?

HarperframeInc (456)

@MythEdits Input them in, leave them always on, wait for them to calculate (because repl power is low), log them to a file, and done!

Jackbaklava (41)

Wait, how do I make an always on repl?

iocoder (162)

@Jackbaklava it is currently only for ppl who have hacker plan i think

Whippingdot (657)

I have a feeling you have already seen this sir:

the title itself says always on

FlaminHotValdez (690)

I'm not a hacker. :thonk:

FlaminHotValdez (690)

@Whippingdot is that free hacker or just discount, I'm literally broke at $0.

FlaminHotValdez (690)

@Whippingdot o.O.o.O Yes I have four eyes. Well I just grew two soo...

Whippingdot (657)

Ok what, do you want it or not. If so invite me to a repl. Also please do not tell the code to anyone. PLOISE @FlaminHotValdez

FlaminHotValdez (690)

@Whippingdot ...nah. Also we're in a team remember?

Whippingdot (657)

So you don't want the code? Fine by me... @FlaminHotValdez

Smart0ne (743)

Would be good if it worked

JBloves27 (1884)

Well... idk. I dont rly use web repls yet, so not too much of a use, yet. Ina make more web repls soon... :D

Bookie0 (6272)

It's always on!

Wow lol!

GummyL (0)

hi i need help it is saying i have 5 max repls on but i delete 3 of them but it still shows i have 5 repls max on

Vandesm14 (2735)

What if you guys used a serverless system for the free plan or in general. That'd allow you to decrease overhead and give people a chance to learn serverless as well.

adl212 (172)

Is this only for hacker plan?

xxpertHacker (930)

Hmm... I just compile my web servers, setup the .replit to just directly run the binary, and enjoy the instant startup times.

BananaJellyfish (210)

How do you make an always-on repl?

xxpertHacker (930)

@BananaJellyfish It's a hacker plan feature. If you have it, it's under the settings on a Repl.

BananaJellyfish (210)

Ah. Money.😱😱😱@xxpertHacker
