Whenever I enter the web address of my website in a DNS changer, it says it's not registered. What is going on? I know it has something to do with subdomains, but I'm confused. Please help.

What is the address?

Grify

@Grify the URL I mean

Grify

@Baconman321 what are you trying to do

Baconman321

@Grify Change the web address name

Grify

@Baconman321 lol that isn't a domain, that's a URL. You can't change repl.it's DNS!

Grify

@Grify Buy a domain from namecheap.com and you can use that

Baconman321

@Grify I am using cloudflare or freenom. So what would I enter into the "search a domain", because if I enter my address, it says invalid domain. If I domain I want to use, it says it's not available, even though I look up the web address and it says ip address not found. I'm new to this, so what would I do?

Grify

@Baconman321 You can't use your repl url with cloudflare. Freenom is for registering domains, once you get a domain then you can set it up to your repl with a CNAME

Baconman321

@Grify How do I set it up with freenom. What do I put in the "register your domain". Also, what is a DNS, and what is the difference between that, a domain, and an address. I am new to this, and I find that the explanations on the internet aren't very helpful.

Grify

@Baconman321 You need a domain to run DNS on...
DNS (Dynamic Name Service) runs specific commands på webadresen
and domain names cost money, and are the base domain like "google.com"

Baconman321

@Grify So, basically.... Domains and DNS are the main server, and the web address is the name of the website. They connect to the domain and DNS? Domains are the name, DNS is the server?

Grify

@Baconman321 the main server is a web server hosted by Google Cloud on behalf of Repl.it, the domain is the routing to that server which makes it accessible, and the DNS is the rules of that routing. The domain has a corresponding DNS panel where you can configure it. none of these connect to each other. DNS is not the server.

Grify

@Grify Here's an analogy:
a domain is a large road sign and the DNS is the words and arrows on the sign that point people in certain directions based on their destination

Baconman321

@Grify cool, thanks

Grify

@Baconman321 No problem. Let me know if you need help setting up your DNS once you've bought your domain

Baconman321

@Grify I won't buy a domain, I'm under 18, and don't wanna spend money on it. Thanks for the lesson tho.

Grify

@Baconman321 I'm under 18 and I have bought near 20 domains /:

Baconman321

@Grify I just don't want to spend any money on it. Plus I have no way of paying except through parents, and they wouldn't buy a domain for me anyways. Even if I paid for it

Grify

@Baconman321 Understandable. You can get a .tk, .ml, .gq, and .ga domain for free, or use a subdomain

Baconman321

@Grify That's the part I don't know how to do.
