VulcanWM

thats great! u working on anything rn? @frostedbutton75

frostedbutton75

Im just kinda working on a little program... YourPersonalSafe but dont go on it yet because passwords are exposed and i need to find out how to hide them
@VulcanWM

OldWizard209

You can hide them using replit's secrets? Did u try that? @frostedbutton75

VulcanWM

I dont think that'll work if the password is getting inputted in the website every time? @OldWizard209

OldWizard209

Well, if another user is relying on frostedbutton's passwords, then it won't work. And about the secret getting inputted every time, I have no idea it will work or not lol. But technically it should because a secret is just a variable stored to the name of a key-value pair, but I am not entirely sure. Sorry. @VulcanWM

VulcanWM

Yeah true, idk maybe some hashing and unhashing module? @OldWizard209

VulcanWM

but ig hashing and unhashing is pretty easy to hack then? maybe some database like mongodb or replitdb with hashing would work? @OldWizard209

OldWizard209

Yep, that should work. But Python is a vulnerable language if you just hash it and keep it. A simple for loop can decrypt the password. I think best will be to use a SQL db or even replit's db, but that is also vulnerable. @VulcanWM

Lol I said the same thing and read this comment after. Yeah you are right. Db's are good for saving passwords but doesn't the hash cause issues when retrieveing it back? I tried it with MYSQL and I got a bunch of gibberish. @VulcanWM

VulcanWM

yeah hashing is good for one time passwords if you just want to match, idt python has some good hashing and unhashing function @OldWizard209

OldWizard209

yep python isn't the best language for hashing out there. @VulcanWM

VulcanWM

maybe using a hashing api might work? @OldWizard209

OldWizard209

That's something that could be done. Do you know any good ones? @VulcanWM

VulcanWM

nope, someone on Replit could make it? @OldWizard209

OldWizard209
VulcanWM

woah yeah this is great.
@OldWizard209

Maybe try this for hashing and unhashing: https://documenter.getpostman.com/view/3362843/RWMCt9WU ?

On chrome, on the place where the bookmark button is, you will see this:

Click on this button and it will open it up as a replit desktop app powered by chrome. Replit doesn't yet have a real desktop app of their own

frostedbutton75

ty. How do i make it say that on my website tho? @OldWizard209

OldWizard209

Ohh. For that, open the website you want to create a shortcut from. Click the three dots on the top right:

Click More Tools > Create Shortcut and the website will be opened as a separate app, and will have a desktop shortcut. Try this and can you confirm if that is what you want? It can work with any website on chrome.
@frostedbutton75

frostedbutton75

yes it is! ty @OldWizard209

OldWizard209
