An entire folder just disappeared?
h
SixBeeps

Uh so this just happened.

I'm working on a project with a comically large amount of data (26.2MB across nearly 37.6k files) and the entire folder containing all of the contents I was working with just disappeared.

Has anyone ever seen something like this before? Luckily I have the data still with me that I can reupload, but this still sounds dangerous.

Are you a "explorer?" That could explain it.

SixBeeps

@CodeMaster007 How would that change anything?

CodeMaster007

Well, I’m pretty sure explorers get access to new and exclusive content that might not be available to regular replit users and therefore they have a option to report a bug or something like that. @SixBeeps

SixBeeps

@CodeMaster007 That still doesn't "explain it" but I might file a ticket.

CodeMaster007

Sorry for the bad “explanation.” What does a ticket do? @SixBeeps

SixBeeps

@CodeMaster007 Replit uses a ticketing system to track their bugs now.

MikeW3

@CodeMaster007 yea u get exclusive access to bugs and crashes
for me leaving explorer fixed it and the bugs did not happen again after rejoining

CodeMaster007

Yeah, I think that is a pretty good explanation. @MikeW3

MikeW3

btw it IS dangerous

Dheeraj2008

It might be cuz of explorer

Teddy007

No - however, for future reference, if you create a file (not sure about folder, though it'll probably work) with the same name as the file/folder you lost and go to said Repl's history and look at that file you want to restore, you can restore its data.

SixBeeps

@Teddy007 Yeah I already tried that, but all the files happened to lose all of their history as well. Check the convo I had with RayhanADev.

Teddy007

@SixBeeps Ah, ok

firefish

When did you upload the folder? Just now? If so, due to the amount of data, the folder never uploaded, was only cached.

SixBeeps

@firefish I uploaded it weeks ago. It has existed just fine until now.

firefish

@SixBeeps Has anything else in the repl disappeared? or was it just the directory?

SixBeeps

@firefish Just the one directory and its contents

SixBeeps

@firefish Actually now that you mention it, I had an empty directory at the same level as the data folder that got removed as well.

firefish

@SixBeeps It's probably a CAS bug. I think your best bet would be to try and see if @amasad knows about it

MikeW3

@firefish What in the world is CAS

firefish

@MikeW3 container attached storage

Replit sometimes does this weird stuff with large files. I have no idea how to fix this other than trying the upload again.

SixBeeps

@programmeruser The weird part is that the individual files themselves weren't very big, there were just a lot of them. Does this weirdness apply to whole folders?

programmeruser

@SixBeeps I don't know, but probably does

RayhanADev

Replit has been iffy recently, I am oftentimes out of sync with the server (I have wired ethernet) and changes are made at improper columns :/.

I haven't heard of folders disappearing but I know about ghost folders and weird duplicating glitches. Yours is weird.

SixBeeps

@RayhanADev I verified that it wasn't a ghost folder (ls) and that all of the contents were gone (checked file history of one of the files in there)
