A competition of templates

For those who did not know, repl.it has a templates page. Templates are premade code that can be easily modified or appended to, and act as a starting point for a project. Although we have some great templates already, we want to add to that collection. Introducing {{ template_jam }}, a competition to create the best templates.

The top three submissions will each get a prize in addition to getting their templates on the templates page.

  • 1st place: $250 (USD) Amazon gift card
  • 2nd place: $100 (USD) Amazon gift card
  • 3rd place: $50 (USD) Amazon gift card

Didn't make the top 3? Don't worry, you still have a chance of getting your template on the templates page, where other replitors can fork your template and craft their own program.

No need to worry about your idea being taken, multiple submissions are allowed! If your idea has already been done, change it up, there's more than one way to crack an egg!

Users who do not already have the content creator role and get a template approved will earn the content creator role.

Where do I submit?

In the templates board. Simply select the repl you want to use for your template.

When does it start?

The competition starts Friday, April 17th at 12 AM PST. Submissions end 4 weeks later, on May 15th, 12 AM PST.

Due to audio being released, we have decided to extend the competition 1 week, so May 22th, 12 AM PST.

An example template is attached to this post.

The template board will be available to post in, when the jam starts (April 17th 12 AM PST).

"Top three submissions" leads me to believe its the 3 most popular posts for anyone wondering

@zog1
I don't think it would be the 3 most popular since that would cause an unfair advantage for people who submitted earlier. Additionally, sometimes, repls with more upvotes are just more entertaining and may not be of a higher quality. I personally think the moderators will judge projects based on quality and usability and then choose the top 3 instead of them being simply the most popular.

I just today came up with a great idea for a template that is similar to, but better than my Ultimate Web Template, but don't think I will have the time to finish it before the competition deadline. Is there any way I could still submit it to be on the template page, even if it is not entered into the competition? The idea is sort of like a combination of Express (without all those annoying, memory hogging dependencies), Socket.io (again, without dependencies), React (with a slightly different syntax), ASP (with JS instead of C#), a database system (similar to SQL), Angular JS, and with add ons with multi-language support and web development using Adapt language interpreters and compilers. It would also include built-in administration features such as live statistics, server status, etc.

You should rename templates to boilerplates :p

That might be more confusing to newer coders as that is an industry only term.
