Weekly Challenge #5
TheDrone7 (2002)

Good Morning/Afternoon/Evening/Night to all beautiful replers! Last month, we restarted weekly challenges. And they were pretty fun (for me at least).

For the new users who did not know about these, there are 4 challenges posted each week of the month and at the end of every month, the total score of the 4 challenges held within that month is your score. The one with the highest score at the end of every month, will be awarded with free replit hacker plan!

To post your submission, just publish your repl onto apps and make sure to include the tag #weekly{n} and replace {n} with the number of the weekly challenge in the title. For example, for the submission to this weekly challenge, publish the repl that contains your submission on apps and include the tag weekly5.

As posted by @DynamicSquid, last month's winner was @Nayoar (yet again), and this month's theme for the challenges is - Web Designing and here is the first challenge!

Product Page!

We all use a lot of products every day. Take pictures of your favorite product (or just google them) and design a webpage about it, showing off its features and everything you love and/or hate about it.

Happy designing!

If you have any further questions, you can ask them via the comments section, and if you don't, I would still recommend going through the comments section as they may contains some extra information.

The criteria for scoring is subjective but there are points for creativity, uniqueness, clean code, etc.

Good luck to all the replers, have fun and hack away!

Another question are we creating a single page for a product (i.e. like an Amazon page about a single item) or are we making a full website (kinda like Amazon minus ecommerce backend and stuff).

TheDrone7 (2002)

@RayhanADev no you're not making an e-commerce website. You're making a showcase page

GhostKing007 (155)

Can we make it a meme-ish product and make meme-ish points about it or do we have to include actual valid points about why we like our product and why its useful etc?

Bookie0 (6571)

@CodingCactus lol tbh I’m just stuck on what product to use lmao

Whippingdot (721)

O how did i find this comment '57 seconds ago'! @Bookie0

Also i am good at frontend but compared to you guys i don't think i will do that good...

RayhanADev (2698)

@Bookie0 if you haven't decided...

Bookie0 (6571)

Lmao yeah I think I’ll be doing something like that hope I don’t lose points haha @RayhanADev

Bookie0 (6571)

Yesssss front end and web design!!!

Whippingdot (721)

Hey by when do I have to submit this today night? I am almost done - I might finish by 10:30 or 11:00 in IST

TheDrone7 (2002)

@Whippingdot it literally just ended. These usually end around 11 PM IST. I judge all the ones submitted by 10:30 then write the post and fix it and post it.

Whippingdot (721)

Hey I submitted mine late - instead of changing the post can you just grade mine and put it in the website? I really want to see how good I am at frontend and I wanna see if I can do good with my whole month's score @TheDrone7

BTW i have never made a chat app in my life :( i am going to have to work EVEN HARDER for this one

QuickV (197)

Well I can't compete :(... Turns out I arrived back from my road trip too late lol.

ch1ck3n (2882)

i am epic late but i think i can do this ezily

sgcoder1337 (74)

tbh i dont really need hacker plan :P just trying out

sgcoder1337 (74)

Can I join the August weekly challenges?

CodingElf66 (324)

@TheDrone7, wait. I'm seeing people who are already hackers enter this contest. So if they win, it just makes their hacker plan free; they don't need to pay for it anymore?

DellWithGaming (0)

I am late but lets start

Ptrulli (0)

A bit late, but this looks like fun!

StringentDev (240)

Making progress, can we focus on only one page? and when does the challenge end?

TheDrone7 (2002)

@StringentDev you're only required to make one page. And it ends 7 days after the post was created.

StringentDev (240)

@TheDrone7 I let you in on a secret, the page is actually for our lang Virra that is powered by C using GCC. (I do want to create a compiler for it tho.)

StringentDev (240)

@TheDrone7 Making the most of the 2 days i have left. Added a whole bunch of thinks like accordions, github auth, SPA using xmlhttprequest, live github feed banner that shows our latest contributor, announcements and of course the express.js server, the most important of all to power all this.

To do is a footer, images (which will take a while because i have to draw those)

xfinnbar (211)

@LavernieChen It's the HTML, JavaScript and CSS of a website.

CodingElf66 (324)

And don't you mean Weekly Challenge #1 @TheDrone7? It's a new month and a new set of challenges.

TheDrone7 (2002)

@JeffreyChen13 nope, it's the 5th challenge of this new series of weekly challenges.

SilentFoxy78 (24)

@TheDrone7 is this still building off the leaderboard of July?

CodingElf66 (324)

You just need to make the Product Page and everything blah blah blah, but do we have to do this in HTML, or can we do (for example) Flask Server (in Python)?

Bunnytoes (232)

I haven't used web design in like 4 years

Whippingdot (721)

Hey @TheDrone7 there is a very irritating problem in replit where css stylesheets don't get linked to in nodejs or i just don't know how to do it...can you help me? Anyone else can help me too

Whippingdot (721)

O wait i fixed it i am smart i am going to create a tutorial on this! @Whippingdot

TheDrone7 (2002)

@Whippingdot look up static file serving in nodejs. Might help.

Whippingdot (721)

Thanks! Instead I just created a new 'app.get' which links to a '/style' in my link and that '/style' just outputs the css code. I then linked to this in the link element (it is simpler in code)...Thanks for the fast reply! @TheDrone7

Whippingdot (721)

Hey while you are still online can I choose the product as Windows 11 even though Windows 11 doesn't really count as my favorite product cause I rarely use it? I can take pictures from the website and online and I can describe the pros and cons of its new features...?

I have Windows 10 on my main comp and my dad has Windows 11. @TheDrone7

TheDrone7 (2002)

@Whippingdot you can use whatever product you want as long as you can write valid content about it

JakeHu2020 (39)

@Whippingdot app.use(express.static('static'))

FlaminHotValdez (750)

@SnackyPlusPlus this has always been the prize for most points on weeklies

CodeMaster007 (123)

Can we use flask rather than using html/css?

RayhanADev (2698)

Out of curiosity are we allowed to use external libs (i.e. Bootstrap, Mui, Tailwind, etc., etc.)

Also can we use React?

williamzhang27 (0)

finally something about html

FlaminHotValdez (750)

Aight i'm sticking away lol i have no frontend knowledge

RayhanADev (2698)

Good luck everyone :D

Aivoybia (42)

i dont know how to code front end stuff :((

Aivoybia (42)

@Aivoybia and im NOT gonna learn it

Coder100 (19280)

well you don't have to participate rip @Aivoybia

Aivoybia (42)

@Coder100 what is frontend anyways :\

@Aivoybia Front end is like how a web page looks and if it's interactive etc.

Nayoar (585)

Dang there isn't really any sort of backend I could make for this

CodingCactus (4321)

@Nayoar functioning e-commerce site
