[UPDATE] 🎉 Announcing : RELAY JAM 🎉
Good morning/evening replers! Today, we are announcing.... Relay Jam! As usual, weird name, yes.
Anyways, the name is this because it is quite similar to a relay race. The details are as follows.
Each submission for the jam will be worked on by a team of 3 people (exactly 3, no more, no less). You can choose to participate with your friends or just apply for yourself and we will help you find your teammates.
To help you find your teammates while registering you will be asked for languages you feel comfortable working with, we will use this to assign people to teams, therefore, be sure to select at least one of the commonly used languages if you can use it.
"How does the jam actually take place though?", is what you might be thinking, and that's the fun part.
The jam starts Friday next week and ends on Monday (it lasts 3 days - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday)
Each of the three days, one of the team members works on the submission. You will be notified who is supposed to work on what day. After the day is over, the next day, the person appointed to work on the project that day, forks the original repl and then works on it that day. On the third day, again whoever was appointed to work on the project that day forks the end result of the second person's work and works on it.
Some basic things to keep in mind:
- Only one person gets to work on the project at a time.
- The project has to completed by 3 different people.
- No specific topic, make something fun or innovative.
- The projects will be judged on subjective criteria such as creativity, freshness, fun, etc.
That's fun and all but now you may be asking why you should participate? Guess what we got that covered too!
The winners of the jam (all 3) will get:
- 6 months of replit hacker plan
- A special role on our discord server
- LOTS OF FUN
The winning team will also be given $150 distributed how they want.
And finally what most of you have been looking for - HOW TO PARTICIPATE?
It seems this was unclear beforehand so this is being mentioned separately, if you're participating in teams, the number of repls you need to submit in the form is the number of people you have in your team. Aka, each of the three members will be working on 3 different repls. In total, every single participant will be contributing to 3 submissions.
If you have any questions, feel free to ask them in the comments section (do not spam and keep it for serious questions only, comments will be deleted otherwise)
For the section of the form asking
Please provide a link to the repl which contains the submission.
How do we link the Repl this early? Aren't we supposed to fork from our teammate the day of, when told by the Jam's host?
@TheDrone7 Why do we start our Repls all at once, if only one person works on a Repl for the first day, and the next Repls are forks from the first?
I've interpreted the jam's rules as, one day one, one person works on the Repl, one day 2, the second member forks the first person's Repl, and works on it for the day, on day three the third member forks the second member's Repl and works on it, after they are done, they stop and the jam is over.
Have I misunderstood this?
Sounds fun but I've never been good at jams and getting things done fast, so good luck to the competitors. Although I do have one question, will the jams be community judged, or by just mods or a group of people?
hmm why didn't i see these pings... sorry @VulcanWM
Hey I haven't created a jam repl yet cause I didn't know if anyone wanted me. I also didn't know what to make, cause we hadn't discussed anything yet...
@TheDrone7 can I be on their team even though it is late? Can we discuss like for this night and tomorrow morning in IST can I start or no? I know tomorrow morning is the end of the Jam but...
OH WAIT I didn't mean to join your team, I mean to join FloCal and FlaminHotValdezs' but they didn't respond to me. I thought it was you guys I talked to... I can still be on your team if TheDrone allows it. Should I read through the comment thread you had with JB and make something? I haven't really conversed with you guys. Sorry for all the confusion by the way - I asked many people I knew if I could be on their team. @VulcanWM
I ruined your whole thing and I hope you can forgive me.
Anyone willing to join me? I know I am late but blame school.
I can do Node/HTML/CSS/JS/Express/Complete Python/ And all backend if you wish.
I knew you were scrolling and I wanted to get attention.
But I am looking for team members.
Languages I know: HTML, CSS, Python
COMMENT TO JOIN!
Wait, how would this work with different timezones?
What if they work on it on the same time because they have different timezones?
Can we help each other?
For example, if I live stream for my day, say I get confused when writing a section, can one of my teammates message me with a suggestion and/or a URL to read about something?
@JBloves27 @VulcanWM I just did the form. I'm planning on something like a chat app. As I know neither of you know node, when you get mine, the ejs (I will learn it) is in
views/, and CSS and js and other resources go in
public/, which will all appear in the same directory when it reaches the client. Ejs is easier to learn than pug, so even though I don't like Ejs, I will use it :)
I'm super sorry to tell you guys these news, but I can't participate in the jam.
It's was on really short notice, and I really never wanted this to happen. However, because of some personal issues, I will not be able to be in your jam team.
I am super sorry for the really short notice. If your team gets kicked out because of me, I am even more truly sorry.
If there is anything to make up for it, please let me know, I will try my best to do so.
I hope you understand and I am again, really sorry for the short notice.
I really hope you don't get disqualified, and if you do, I am even more truly sorry. I really hope you guys win this :)
Anyone want to work together? I have a musical idea and it'll be built with Nextjs frontend, Nodejs/Expressjs server (and also ytdl-core), and Cloud Firestore database. If you have some advanced knowledge in any of these you would be and awesome addition to this team :).
I'll pick the two people for the team and we'll start planning ASAP!
